Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Andrea Pekofske, RN, MS (Rush University Medical Center)
Description: This is a concise and thorough pocket guide for critical care nurses. It clearly covers basic critical care content that practitioners can easily utilize at the bedside.
Purpose: The obvious purpose of this book is to serve as a bedside, pocket-sized reference guide. It is a very useful tool for novice critical care nurses. It can be used in medical, surgical, or cardiac specialty units.
Audience: The author does not specify the intended audience for this reference guide, but it is appropriate for student nurses, critical care nurses, and advanced practitioners.
Features: The tables and illustrations presented in this reference guide are thorough and practical. The scope of the tables and illustrations are consistent with basic critical care concepts. The overall appearance is satisfactory. The use of color in the tables and headings would make it more appealing and easier to read. Laminated pages would allow for greater durability.
Assessment: This is an excellent tool presenting basic concepts. I would recommend it be available in bookstores and as part of the orientation packet for new critical care nurses.
