Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Why do the ducks keep crossing River Road? In Green Lawn, this question isn't just the beginning of a funny riddle, it's a major community problem. To protect their fine feathered friends, the kids help raise enough cash to construct a special duck bridge. But before Dink, Josh, and Ruth Ross can receive one grateful quack, the duck fund is stolen. Can our intrepid good citizens wade through this quicksand-like quandary?
Children's Literature
In this "A to Z Mysteries" book, the money the town has raised to build the ducks' crossing-bridge over the highway is stolen from the firehouse. Dink, Josh and Ruth Rose get involved when they are sleeping in the barn and see a car's headlight in the field. A fire brings out the fire department and it seems to be a way to get the fireman away so that the duck bank with the money collection can be stolen. The kids finally wind up in quicksand while trying to track the thief. The firemen are helpful in the identification of the thief and in the rescue of the children. The book is easy to read and has good related illustrations. It is a simple mystery series that can be understood by the age level intended. 2002, A Stepping Stone Book/Random House,

    Um, okay...

This book is not the greatest Roy has written. Just like in all of the other books, something is stolen, only this time from the fire station. The town has been saving for a bridge for ducks, so someone steals the money. The three kids go trailing after the thief and find themselves in quicksand!

    Silenteye

Silenteye sits down and waited. A breeze rustled the leaves and a cat came gliding through. "Why did you take Silverfoot?" Silenteye commanded. "Because, that was the third sign," the cat replied, "unless you don't want to free Morningflower..." Silenteye hesitated before comtinuing, "Stripe, the Dark Forest is planning—" "Planning to ki<_>ll you so they can have their revenge? I'm the 'Stripe that can cross both borders', coward," Stripe spat. Silenteye looked at his paws. "You left two kits motherless," he meowed softly. A clouded look came into Stripe's eyes. "I know, we reget that, your mate escpessially," she mewed. Silenteye inhaled sharply. "She isn't my mate," he said. "I know." Stripe faded and Silenteye went back.
