A LONG DAYS JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS, AND EVENTUALLY BACK INTO LIGHT.

This book...a first for the author, offers a profound insight into how sociopaths can insinuate themselves into the hearts and minds of the innocent and the hopeful. It systematically describes the events, and the progressive descent into the clinging quicksands of despair and disbelief of a young women who finds that everything she knew and believed about her husband was a lie. A liar, a cheat and a bank-robber, he had the power of a svengali to truly mesmerize her... and he continued to do so even when the lie was fully exposed.

But this story is really about how an extraordinary catastrophe tested, and ultimately toughened the writer. It describes how a few people rallied to her support, but that most chose to see her as implicated by association, and called on a false moral superiority to add insult to injury. Friend after friend said there was 'no room at the Inn'...her plight seemingly embarrassed and inconvenienced them.

The story eventually reveals how Sarah Jones self-identity was literally hijacked by the man she loved, and how her loyalty to the idea of who he was kept her faithful to him long after all reason told her to abandon him. "That which hurts me makes me stronger"..so true about Sarah Jones.

I read the book in two sittings, unable to stop. It flows easily and naturally as a story, and without self-justification, clearly lays out the feelings of a woman for a man who had deceived her and betrayed her trust. This is the story of one woman that truly speaks for many women. Ultimately, it is a story of self-discovery and reconciliation with a tumultuous past.

    Not sympathetic

¿Wow, I really wanted to like this book. This true story had such an interesting premise, but the "victim" aka the author was totally not sympathetic. She was a 30 ish woman with a good job and a college degree before she even met this man but I felt like I was reading about a 18 year old and her first crush. So many times I wanted to reach through the pages and slap some sense into her. She thanks all her family and friends for their support, but they were on enablers.¿
