Editorial Reviews

VOYA
Ballroom dance lover Stacy Graysin follows her passion and opens a dance studio in downtown D.C.. Stacy inherits a townhouse from her great aunt and decides to turn the top floor into a dance studio. Her dancing partner, Rafe, becomes her fiance and business partner. Each partner leaves the other half of their share in the business to each other in their respective wills. All seems wonderful until she catches her fiance with another woman, and they break up on the spot. Soon Rafe's lifeless body is discovered in her studio, and Stacy is charged with his murder. To Stacy's surprise, Rafe changed his will and left half his share to his brother. Follow Stacy in this fast-paced murder mystery as her life unwinds while she tries to keep her studio and her passion for dance while investigating the murder to prove her innocence. Barrick, in her debut mystery series, A Ballroom Dance Mystery, combines romance, teen pregnancy, overprotective parents, jealousy, and justice into a fast-paced novel that is hard to put down. It is a quick escape into the world of competitive ballroom dancing. The novel would appeal to dance fanatics and anyone who enjoys a quick mystery. The investigation and mystery are engaging and leave the reader guessing. The book contains violence and murder, but the descriptions are tame. There are a few mild curse words, but overall the book is appropriate for sensitive middle school students. Reviewer: Ellen Frank
VOYA
Quickstep to Murder is a great book to pick up if you like mystery and romance. A bit cliche and predictable, it is still an easy read that will keep readers on their toes and turning the pages. Readers will be as intrigued as Stacy is as she tries to find out who was involved in the murder of her ex-fiancee. 3Q, 3P. Reviewer: Maya Pintar, Teen Reviewer
Library Journal
Stacy Graysin's dream of a successful dance career glides precariously near the edge when her ex-fiancé, the handsome Rafe, is shot dead in their ballroom studio. Rafe had his share of enemies, but Stacy (and the police) can't quite agree on a motive. When Rafe's dashing Argentinean half-brother shows up to claim ownership of his half of the studio, Stacy digs in to save her livelihood, and her life. Concurrently, dance competitions—described in wonderful detail—provide quite a backdrop for a zany supporting cast of dance instructors, a lovesick teen couple, a dancing congresswoman, a no-nonsense detective, and the Argentinean embassy. VERDICT Perfect for all your dance show fans. Barrick brings a light step and upbeat tempo to her debut. Readers will like the adjacency to the greater DC area (plot potential there) and the interplay between generations. Who wouldn't want to spice up their lives with a little ballroom?
