These two beloved, best-selling concept books, richly illustrated by Ashley Wolff, are now available as board books for small hands.  The youngest nursery tots will appreciate how phrases and actions from their own experiences also apply to animal babies.  Each book begins with an affectionate scene between a human parent and child, but moves on to care giving in animal families.  "She listens when I talk" shows a mamma cat and her mewing kitten.  "She tucks me in features a kangaroo with her joey peeking out of her pouch.  "He sings me songs" shows a gray wolf and his cub.  In concept, text, and art, these are among the most warm and reassuring lap books ever.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Another pair of board books is also offered in English and Spanish-English editions: I Love My Mommy Because... (Quiero a mi mama porque...) and I Love My Daddy Because... (Quiero a mi papa porque...) by Laurel Porter-Gaylord, illus. by Ashley Wolff. Children may well identify with the baby animals pictured, all of whom love their parents for all that they do for their children, whether it be a daddy emperor penguin that "keeps me safe and warm" or a mother panda that "gives me great big hugs." Children's Literature
Portraying the theme of fatherly love, this bilingual board book presents 20 baby animals interacting with their fathers in various activities. After an opening page showing a little girl playing puppets with her father, following pages depict a variety of father and baby animals engaged in activities that a young child can relate to. The last page shows the human father holding his sleeping daughter, with the text explaining that she loves her daddy because he loves her. Besides the colorful appealing illustrations of the animals, each page consists of one short Spanish sentence in dark print, followed by its English translation in smaller, lighter print. A similar method is used at the top of each page for supplying the names of each animal. A note on the bottom of the copyright page states that the animal behavior depicted has been verified by wildlife biologists. This seems strange because a few of the animals seem somewhat anthropomorphized, such as the father gorilla teaching his baby to "be brave." This slight criticism is probably not very important given the audience and use of the book as a baby or toddler lap book depicting a warm father and child bond rather than strict biological realism. 2004, Dutton's Children's Books, Ages 2 to 6.

    Highly recommended!!!

Great book for monolingual and bilingual children! With this book, my child is learning not only two languages, but also about nature. My son loves the pictures (wide variety of animals) and my husband enjoys reading this book to our baby.... A must have!

    A Very Endearing Book

I purchased this book for my grand daughter to give to her daddy as a gift. The illustrations are beautiful, and detail the love between a parent and child. I especially liked the use of both english/spanish languages, as my daughter is teaching her daughter how to speak Spanish. I was very happy with this purcahase.
