Let the Games Begin....
Quillan is a territory on the verge of destruction. The people have lost control of their own future and must struggle simply to survive. The only chance they have of finding a better life is by playing the Quillan Games. Hosted by a strange pair of game masters, Veego and LaBerge, the games are a mix of sport and combat. They use the people of Quillan as pawns for their amusement as they force them to enter competitions that range from physical battles, to impossible obstacle courses, to computer-driven tests of agility. To triumph in the games is to live the life of a king. To lose is to die.

This is the dangerous and deadly situation Bobby Pendragon finds on Quillan. He quickly realizes that the only way to save this troubled territory is to beat Veego and LaBerge at their own games and dismantle their horrible fun house. But there is more at stake for Bobby. The prize for winning the Quillan Games may be discovering the truth of what it really means a Traveler.

Editorial Reviews

Each new episode seems to raise the stakes of this action adventure series. In the seventh installment, Bobby Pendragon realizes that the Quillan Territory can be saved only by defeating game masters Veego and LaBerge in a fateful competition: Winning the Quillan Games could bring him a giant step closer to understanding the meaning of being a Traveler. Losing brings instant extinction.
KLIATT - KLIATT Review
To quote the review of the hardcover in KLIATT, May 2006: Bobby Pendragon, fresh from a deadly encounter with Saint Dane, finds an invitation to the Games of Quillan, and off he goes to a fresh Territory. The people of Quillan are quite fond of games, and of gambling, but the stakes if one loses are grim indeed. In no time at all, Bobby finds himself a Challenger in the biggest Games of the world, where winning is everything and the losers leave in a coffin. But there is some hope: Bobby has discovered a secret underground movement, working to wrest control of their world from the fascist Corporation that rules it. Meanwhile, back on Second Earth, Bobby's friends are in trouble, and he needs to get back to help them--if he can survive. This series gets better and better, and the stakes for the Territories have just been raised again. Essential for libraries that own the series, which should be all libraries. Age Range: Ages 12 to 18. REVIEWER: Deirdre Root (Vol. 42, No. 1)
VOYA
It is time to buckle up for the seventh installment in the Pendragon series, as Bobby travels to Quillan, where gaming is not an amusing pastime but a way to survive-losing means death. After watching Quillan's traveler die in a game, Bobby finds himself being forced into the role of Challenger in the most extreme of Quillan's games, the Grand X, something most likely orchestrated by Bobby's nemesis, St. Dane. Realizing that more than his life is at stake, Bobby seeks to find the secret of Quillan, held by the mysterious Mr. Pop. On Second Earth, Courtney is recovering from her near fatal accident, aided by Mark and his strange new friend. None of the three heroes have any inkling of the horrors awaiting them. It is difficult to imagine a better thrill ride than a Pendragon novel, and MacHale keeps kicking up the adrenaline factor with each subsequent book. Although this volume starts slowly and sometimes gets bogged down in exposition, it quickly becomes a roller coaster of unexpected twists and turns. MacHale is not afraid to subject his characters to failure, betrayal, and loss, and jaw-dropping surprises are in store for fans who have come to love them. With its deftly handled warning of a future of uncontrolled greed, its questioning of the nature of good and evil, and the shattering portrayal of loss, it is one of the most impacting entries of a creative and challenging series. My boyfriend got me into the Pendragon series, and at first I didn't want to read it because I thought it would be a take off of Harry Potter [which i also love.] However, I couldn't have been more wrong! Its a completely different story line that is amazing. I've loved reading it. Anyone who is into fantasy/adventure stories would love this series/book!

From the first page of book one on, I was hooked! I love the characters and thier development throughout the story, and I love the creativity involved in each of the different worlds. I can't wait to see what happens next! If you liked Pendragon, you might also enjoy the "Fablehaven" series by Brandon Mull, and the "Percy Jackson" series by Rick Riordan.

Definitely a great read. Unlike other Pendragon books before it, this one is really thrilling and suspenseful. Probably not my absolute favorite of the series, but a close second. Read this book. You will get hooked. :)

This one was a little slow at times, and a little difficult to get through. But the games are creative and fascinating to read about. There's also some interesting stuff going on with Mark back on Earth to heat things up. Another good installment
