Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Given the popularity of IDG's "dummy" books, it would seem that Americans are either suffering from a massive inferiority complex or are supremely confident of their ability to learn any subject from auto mechanics to rocket science. Either way, public libraries would be wise to purchase this book, which is an excellent introduction to patchwork, applique, and quilting, as well as a good refresher course for the intermediate quilter. Starting with a simple hand-quilted pillow, Fall leads the reader step-by-step through 16 colorful practice projects, working up to a quilt for a twin-size bed. Touches of humor, tips, and reference information (such as "Batting 1000," a table comparing different brands of batting) hold the reader's attention. Recommended generally for public libraries. Good starting point!

I have been sewing all of my life but have never done any quilting. This is a great introduction and inspiration to get me started.

    Disappointed

I don't know about being a dummy but I found this book difficult to understand and follow. I would not recommend this book to someone who is truly a beginner at quilting.

I have many books on quilting, but I find myself referring to this book over and over again. I am a beginner quilter and I highly recommend this book for someone who is just starting their first quilting project. It has every answer to any question you could possibly think of.

    Bring back 1st edition

Where in this book does it give you basic charts - like common quilt sizes? And how to calculate yardage needed? There's a chapter on computer programs that do that for you but where's the original know-how? I bought this to replace an old 1st edition and found it seriously lacking in basic information. The old one was much better.
