These extraordinary quilt designs, dating from the Civil War era, will inspire contemporary quilters.

The techniques demonstrated in this book are definitely modern, but the projects and patterns are based on mid-nineteenth-century quilts and convey an authentic feel of that period. Readers may opt to sew faithful copies or create contemporary adaptations of the featured quilts. Fascinating photographs, as well as excerpts from their diaries and letters, introduce the women from the North and South who crafted these beautiful quilts.

Reviewing this book is difficult. When I saw it was available thru b&n online I was excited. The book is out of print. I didn't realise, nor was I informed that what I was ordering was a print on demand version. The print on demand version have a different color/print quality. So for pictures of quilts, designs, or fabrics the resolution doesn't match the original published printing. I actually want to return this version. Buyer Be AWare.
