Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Tyros and experienced quilters alike will delight in this extensive and abundantly illustrated manual by two quilting teachers. Thirty classic and two new patterns are offered, along with yardage requirements for five standard sizes, templates and specific directions for every stage of construction. McClun and Nownes advise on everything from choosing patterns and color schemes to timesaving techniques. Rich color photographs or diagrams accompany each instruction, eliminating guesswork and anticipating a novice's questions. Guidelines for adapting the book for classroom use are supplied, and interspersed ``practice exercises'' will build a beginner's confidence as well as skills. Pros will appreciate such resourceful hints as how to turn a dining-room table into a light table for tracing patterns, or how to use sandpaper to secure fabric as it is being marked. (Jan.)

    great for starting out!

I am a total beginner, and I found this book to be very helpful. There are several step by step exercises to help you learn to piece different types of blocks, use templates, etc. Great instructions!

This book should be in every quilters' collection

I taught myself to quilt using this book. I continue to use it a few years after starting. I was lucky enough to take a class with Laura Nownes, she is a wonderful teacher in person & in the book.

    Very Disappointing

I bought this book after reading the outstanding reviews. I started on Drunkard's Path, a difficult pattern, but being an experienced quilter I thought I was up to the task. From start to finish, the directions were confusing, incomplete and at times inaccurate. Even the fabric measurements were way off. I can't believe the authors followed their directions when making this quilt.

    Best All Around Quilt Book

As a quilting teacher, this book is my number one source. It is useful to beginners and experienced quilters alike. The many projects and techniques contained therein make it an 'all around' winner.

    BEST book on quilting

I have many quilting books, but this one is absolutely the best reference on 'how to' and 'what to' do with respect to a many quilt-related topics. When I have had questions, I have consistently found my answers in this book. If I had to have only one quilting book, this would be it!

    A Classic

This was a book that I used to teach myself how to quilt. The information is very simply written. Also a good resource if you are looking for a variety of popular patterns in one book. I go back to this one again and again. And I recommend it to people who come into the quilt shop and say they want to know how to quilt and do not know where to start.
