Quinceanera: A Latina's Journey to Womanhood

Quinceanera: A Latina's Journey to Womanhood

by Mary D. Lankford, Jesse Herrera (Photographer)

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 4-7-A brief photo essay that describes all aspects of this Latina rite of passage that marks the transition from childhood to womanhood. It focuses on 15-year-old Martha Jimenez, a Mexican American from Austin, Texas, as she and her family affirm their religious faith and celebrate this special occasion. Average-quality black-and-white and full-color photographs extend the simple text, which is straightforward and informative, although at times awkwardly composed. Historical background on the roots of the quinceaera are given. An attractive look at a little-treated subject.-Ann Welton, Terminal Park Elementary School, Auburn, WA
