It takes all kinds, as they say, and in 1970 all kinds could get a record deal. For their second album, Quintessence, the amiable group of hippies based in London's Notting Hill, continued in much the way of their debut, with rambling jams that took in everything from jazz to Indian music, with a more than healthy does of psychedelia along the way. In its own way enjoyable enough (i.e., if you were off your head at the time), the big question is -- does it really warrant a reissue (especially with bonus tracks, even if they add a live version of "Jesus, Buddha, Moses, Gaurangua," which honestly doesn't do justice to their chops)? If you saw them and liked them, you might want this. But it's doubtful whether the uninitiated will be tempted to go out and discover this band on their own, certainly not after all this time.
