“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… screwed up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs make a right."

Tess is Q’s completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably. But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.

He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.

If I thought Tears of Tess pushed me out of my comfort zone, thi

If I thought Tears of Tess pushed me out of my comfort zone, this one basically pushed me over a ledge. Just. Wow. It's dark and twisted and amazing. I'm not even sure how to review it because I absolutely refuse to give anything about this book away, so I'm basically just going to talk about how it made me feel. My review might be a little spoilerish for anyone who hasn't read Tears of Tess, so keep that in mind before going any further.

"I thought I would be her nightmare – her terror and darkness. I wanted to be. I needed her more than food or sunlight. Only when she came into my life did I start to live – intoxicated by her taste, screams, and joy."

When Tess returns to Q at the end of Tears of Tess, I was overjoyed. By that point, I had started to love Q just a bit myself. She was right to leave her old life behind and continue her path of self-discovery, love and lust with Q. Brax was boringly vanilla and, despite their history, not a good fit for Tess. Q had given her freedom: freedom to be herself and express the desires she actually has. Tess and Q aren't the cutesy little couple you fall in love with easily as you read. They're dark and damaged and desperately need each other. There's more than lust between them, though their dark desires definitely play a part in making them who they are – and in making them so right together. No, it's not my type of relationship, but that doesn't make it any less real. I was excited to read the next chapter in their lives to see how they moved forward with each other.

"I said I'd fight for you. That you deserved to be fought for. I didn't know then, and I still don't know what I need to finally get through to you–" I leaned forward, trying to get close enough to kiss him. He stiffened and his hold gave no room for movement. "–but I'll never stop. I was right. You're worth every fight. Every argument and bump in the road. I'll fight because I'm falling for you, Q."

Quintessentially Q was phenomenal. Intense. It was full of ups and downs and I was often left on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen. I'd hoped Tess' traumas were over after Tears of Tess, but I was wrong. There was still more to come. I truthfully wasn't sure my brain, my gut or my heart could handle this book. It took me through all the emotions. Made me feel everything. All the feelings. It left me mentally and physically exhausted, but in the best possible way. The characters are incredible. We see a different side of Tess in this book – one that left me gutted at times. Q … Q makes me melt. He's deeply devoted to Tess and goes above and beyond proving it in this book. It's amazing, actually, the lengths he goes to. It might be strange to call him romantic, but I think once you read the book you might understand why I would call him just that.

"We broke each other, and the only way to stay whole was to entwine ourselves, gluing the jagged parts, stitching our souls into one."

Since the book is told from both Q and Tess' POV, we learn more about what makes them tick. It was a real joy to get inside Q's head in Quintessentially Q. He was such an interesting, enigmatic, complex character in Tears of Tess. I had a difficult time getting a full read on him. It took some time for me to warm up to him. In Quintessentially Q, however, we're treated to his POV so we immediately know more about him and his thoughts, feelings and desires. And, if I'm being honest, I have to say I fell head over heels in love with him in this book.

"You stole my loneliness. I may have given you wings, but you've become my gravity. I'll never be free of your force."

I simply can't wait to see what happens next in this series. What I do know is that whatever it is, I'm probably not going to be mentally prepared and I probably will want alcohol to deal with it.

    Just. Wow.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All quotes come from the review copy and may differ from the final version.

Oh wow! That was a complete mind eff and yet, beautifully told in its brokenness, its moments of shattering apart in order to come back together. Quintessentially Q picks up right where Tears of Tess leaves off. I had no idea what to expect after the first book and QQ exceeded any expectations I might have possibly had!

Yes, it's dark, and there are several oh sh*t moments. My heart was in my throat and I often felt like it was going to jump out of my chest or was going to be ripped out. Still, it is captivating and you have the sense that you are right there in the story, living it with Q and Tess. Q - holy eff. I found myself consumed with him. His pain, his love, his torment, his need. His animal side, and the side that is caring. Tess has great mental strength and an intense love for Q. I felt I was right there experiencing everything with her.

Pepper Winters captivates me and it's as though I'm watching a train wreck about to happen. I KNOW there's going to be pain. I KNOW it's not going to completely end well. But there's that glimmer of hope that somehow, some way, there are survivors.

In the end, perfection. There were tears, my heart was throbbing and breaking, and there were laughs and heart-stopping moments of love. As strange as it sounds, it was as if Q and Tess had to have these things happen in order to see their other sides. When the moment of change happens, you can hear it and feel it. It just takes your breath away. Throughout, I felt that if they were going to find each other, to come back to one another, they had to find their dark side and their softer sides. It was a matter of whether or not they could do so.

I'll leave you with this. I really don't feel I can even do this book justice. It's taken me a couple of days to even form these words. I don't normally go for a darker read but I can say though that Pepper Winters knows exactly how to write a story that drowns you in the dark and keeps you there and you love her for it. She's definitely on my must read list!

Q and Tess found each other and I thought this book would be an HEA for what each of them want and need. I was not expecting the roller coaster that was presented to us. WOW! I have to hand it to Pepper, if the really bad guys' intention was to break someone's mind, they certainly went about it the right way. The lengths Q goes to protect and possess Tess are quite extreme, but those measures are perfect for his personality as well as his monster. As disturbing as some of the circumstances were in this story, all were necessary and didn't prevent the reader from being completely engrossed in the book. A very well written and compelling read. We get to know Q and Tess as well as Frederick and Franco quite a bit more. All of these people are so lucky to have each other as well as all of the supporting characters.
Not all monsters are bad and not everyone should be scared of the dark, but it helps if you've got a partner by your side.
Also, there are 2 poems at the end by Ker Dukey. They are fabulous and you need to go past the sneak peek, about the auther, acknowledgements and playlist to read them. You won't be disappointed. They are phenominal.
Thank you to Pepper Winters for another mind-blowing read. I'm so happy that I started reading her, and I believe that everyone should.

I love the emotional rollercoaster that is Q & Tess' relationship

This is book 2 in the series. I thought the auhor could'nt possibly top the emotional and physical torture that Q and Tess went through in Tears for Tess. She succeeded .This book was a dark, pulse pounding nightmare. I could'nt believe my eyes as i was reading page after page of unbearable physical and emotional abuse that not only Tess has to endure. Q thinking he has finally found his equal has to leash his demons and almost loses himself to save the woman he loves from a sworn enemy and later herself.
I loved every page . Once you start though plan to stay in one spot until the book is finished , because you' ll be hooked

The continuation of Tess and Q's story just gets better and better.  Tess discovers that Q isn't what she thought he was.  And Q will do anything to bring her back from the brink.  Love this series!

Quintessentially Q is a really dark book, however I couldn't stop turning the pages. Even pissed myself off that I started it so late in the
evening that I couldn't finish it in one night. Tess is literally put through hell, and so is Q in his search, and then the recovery process. I

entire series with a small warning that it is not for the faint of heart.

What can I say about the second part of the "Monsters in the Dark, #2" ... "Quintessentially Q" follows "Tears For Tess". Q and Tess story continues upon Tess returning to her savior, captor and lover Q, after given the opportunity to rejoin the life that was forcefully taken from her through the deprived world of human trafficking. "Quintessentially Q" gives you the reader an in-depth understanding of the true business that surrounds Q and a even darker side of what makes him tick as a man/monster. The unconventional relationship between these two broken persons is so profoundly explored throughout that it's not for the faint of heart.... If you are searching for a tantalizing new story and author to sink you teeth into than pick up the "Monsters in the Dark" series its meant for you!

I'm speechless! I'm not sure how I even managed to finish this book! It is hard to read! I would read and then let it go and go on to some shinny and happy place in another book and then come back to this one! It is however, an amazing book and of course being in love with these two characters, I had to follow them in the journey! Once you make it to the other side, you'll be so glad you stuck to it because it is breathtakingly beautiful! I am in love with Q!!! That is man!!! Invest in this series! You'll be so happy you did!

w, before I go any further can I just express that the word Quintessentially is the hardest word to spell ever and I never get it right on the first try!! Ha Ha. Thank god for spell check. So going forward I am just going to refer to the book as QQ like I see so many others do.

QQ is the second book by Pepper Winters, Monsters in the Dark Series. I read the first book and if you have read my review, you know how intensely I felt about it. I was told by others to hold on to something tight because book two was surely going to rattle my core ten times over the first book NO JOKE!! I was scared to read it. I was planning on taking a break in between because I did not know if my heart or mind could handle it. Well, I went right into it anyway.  Nothing could have prepared me for this read. No words from other readers and what they had to say could even come close to how this book made me feel, until I actually read it for myself. Now that I have read it, I have no regrets.

If you read the first book than you may have picked up on a few things that were coming in QQ, The detail in which Pepper Winters writes this story and the emotions she has her character emote is astounding to me.  Every scene leaps off the page at you like 3D. Part two of this series is raw and gritty but I loved Q’s determination and strength even when he was faltering. Tess even with everything that she is put through, I saw her strength come through over and over again. I would have done the same thing if I was put in her shoes. I rooted for her the entire time, sometimes out loud thinking she might actually hear me. I could never try to empathize or sympathize with the horrors Tess dealt with because my sheltered life has a hard time believing something like this could really be happening to women in the world. Most stories even for entertainment purposes have semblance of truth and I know that human trafficking is real but when I begin to believe it, my emotions get the best of me.

This is a love story that breaks all the rules of how you believe a love story should be. Pepper Winters is a rule breaker and I LOVE HER for it. It is not hearts and flowers and when Q gives Tess a heart, it is in the most real sense you will ever see in a story. I felt very broken after Tears of Tess but QQ not only broke me more but smashed those pieces to little tiny granules. It is by the magic of Pepper Winters writing that those granules of my broken mind and heart were reformed and put back together.  These characters from the beginning are broken and their needs are not deemed acceptable in our society but who are we to say what is right for someone else. Pepper Winters gave us broken characters that become whole but are still broken. How is that even possible? The only answer of have for that is that she is pure genius and her imaginations has no bounds.

I can’t wait for book three to come out. I am sitting on pins and needles and will suffer the pain until my one click finger can get to work! Hurry Pepper Please!!!!

I feel like I just gave birth...

I just finished both Tears of Tess and Quintessentially Q (in two days). I just need to tell you right now, before you read anything else, that I loved them both. I have never read something as dark and twisted as these stories THAT I COULDN'T ACTUALLY PUT DOWN. I fell in love with Tess and Q's chemistry completely. I love how you showed the honesty in Tess' character that even when she was getting the domination that she craved from Q she hated having to act like she didn't want it. If you had written these stories in a different order I don't know if I could have made it through them. You kept me enthralled trying to figure out Q and what drove him and I just about wept at the end of Tears. Trafficking, rape, mutilation...just the total mind-#@!# that you put Tess through, in Q, just about ripped me apart. With these two books you successfully made my heart swell, ripped it out of my chest, stomped on it, cleaned it up, put it back and started it beating again. I'm too old for this. You’ve definitely earned yourself another fan! I look forward to book three...sigh. Maybe there is a little masochist in all of us. Congratulations Pepper. You have managed to reveal light within such darkness and captured it perfectly in two beautifully written books.
