Raai Praveen: ओरछा की कोकिला

Rai Praveen: The Nightingale of Orchha - A unique saga of love, wisdom and loyalty

Rai Praveen was a talented woman from the Orchha kingdom of Bundelkhand. She was known for her beauty, singing, dancing and poetic talent. Her love for King Indrajit Singh, along with the wisdom and loyalty she displayed in the court of Emperor Akbar, makes her an inspirational figure in history.

She was not born in a royal lineage, but her proficiency in art earned her a special place in the Orchha court. King Indrajit Singh built the "Rai Praveen Mahal" for her, which is still a symbol of his love and respect.

When Akbar summoned Rai Praveen to the court, it was a challenging time for Orchha. Going to Agra, she recited a couplet before Akbar:

"Vineeti Rai Praveen ki, Suniye Shah Sujan.

Jhoothi paatar bhakt hain, Baari, Bayas, Swan."

Through this couplet, she made it clear that her heart is already devoted to King Indrajit Singh. Impressed by her wisdom and integrity, Akbar allowed her to return to Orchha with honour.

The story of Rai Praveen remains an example of a woman who faced the emperor's wishes with dignity, love, art, and self-respect. Her life still teaches us that true talent and integrity are more valuable than any power.
