Beautiful, poignant story - hats off to David Lindsay-Abaire

I am involved in Community Theatre and bought this play as a friend of mine will be directing it for our theatre company. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. It's a beautiful, touching, sad and funny story about a family coping with the unthinkable, the death of a child. The play is extremely well written. You can relate to the characters and the dialogue. You can picture your family having a similar conversation to those the characters have in their kitchen at a birthday party. The play shows you that everyone has to grieve in their own way and then you have to be able to move on to survive. We all have tragedy in our lives and I think we can all empathize with the thoughts and feeling of Abaire's wonderful characters. This play is very touching, thoughtful and hopeful.

    Brilliant Play

I have seen a production of this play and am considering it for production next year at my campus. The playwright is usually brilliant (Wonder of the World, Good People), but this play is exceptional.

    Finally read the whole thing.

This is an excellent play. I am finally reading it after hearing about it and seeing scenes from it. Very touching and moving.

    Beautiful and Moving

It is no wonder the Pulitzer committee awarded this play. Among the cast of five we meet achingly real people, each hurting in his own painful and solitary way, unsure how to connect and heal. Just when the drama becomes almost too intense, Lindsey-Abaire offers us a bit of comic relief. I bought it to read prior to an audition and fell in love. Oh - I got the part!
