Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Rabbits are soft, furry, loveable and adorable. Yet, when they are born, they have no fur. Rabbit fur comes in many colors and patterns and includes short or long hair. Readers will learn what to feed rabbits, how to take care of them, and what they like to play with. Did you know that a rabbit can find its way in the dark by using its whiskers? This information and other facts make reading this book fun. The colorful, close up pictures of the rabbits will make the reader want to cuddle them! This book is plainly written for the young reader to understand. There is a glossary in the back to help with terms that might be difficult. Also included in the book is a web site to go to for further information. This book would be useful in the classroom when talking about animals in stories or science. This book is part of the "Let's Read About Pets" series. 2004, Weekly Reader Early Learning Library, Ages 3 to 7.

Library Journal
Gr 1-3-Brief introductions to pets for beginning readers. Each book combines a few important facts about the featured animal, including behavior and what a first-time owner might need to know about feeding and basic care. A full-page, color photo faces a few lines of large-print, upbeat text. However, Rabbits might offer some challenges to children. They are told that rabbits eat food "in pellets." The word is not explained in context but is included in the glossary. Additionally, although rabbits with droopy ears may well be referred to as "lops," the actual name for this breed is lop-ear rabbit. Adequate titles for emergent readers.-Andrea Tarr, Corona Public Library, CA Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
