Clive Cussler
Clive Cussler is the Grand Master of Adventure, and author or coauthor of more than forty previous books, including twenty-one Dirk Pitt® novels, most recently Crescent Dawn; nine NUMA® Files adventures, most recently Devil’s Gate; eight Oregon Files books, most recently The Jungle; the Isaac Bell historical thrillers, most recently The Thief; three Fargo adventures, most recently The Kingdom; and young adult novels, most recently, The Adventures of Hotsy Totsy. His nonfiction works include Built for Adventure, The Sea Hunters , and The Sea Hunters II; the latter two describe the true adventures of the real NUMA®, which, led by Cussler, searches for ships of historic significance. With his crew of volunteers, Cussler has discovered more than sixty ships, including the long-lost Confederate submarine Hunley. He lives in Arizona.

Justin Scott's twenty-four novels include The Shipkiller and Normandie Triangle; the Ben Abbott detective series; and five modern sea thrillers published under his pen name Paul Garrison.

Biography

Cussler began writing novels in 1965 and published his first work featuring his continuous series hero, Dirk Pitt, in 1973. His first non-fiction, The Sea Hunters, was released in 1996. The Board of Governors of the Maritime College, State University of New York, considered The Sea Hunters in lieu of a Ph.D. thesis and awarded Cussler a Doctor of Letters degree in May, 1997. It was the first time since the College was founded in 1874 that such a degree was bestowed.

Cussler is an internationally recognized authority on shipwrecks and the founder of the National Underwater and Marine Agency, (NUMA) a 501C3 non-profit organization (named after the fictional Federal agency in his novels) that dedicates itself to preserving American maritime and naval history. He and his crew of marine experts and NUMA volunteers have discovered more than 60 historically significant underwater wreck sites including the first submarine to sink a ship in battle, the Confederacy's Hunley, and its victim, the Union's Housatonic; the U-20, the U-boat that sank the Lusitania; the Cumberland, which was sunk by the famous ironclad, Merrimack; the renowned Confederate raider Florida; the Navy airship, Akron, the Republic of Texas Navy warship, Zavala, found under a parking lot in Galveston, and the Carpathia, which sank almost six years to-the-day after plucking Titanic's survivors from the sea.

In September, 1998, NUMA - which turns over all artifacts to state and Federal authorities, or donates them to museums and universities - launched its own web site for those wishing more information about maritime history or wishing to make donations to the organization. (www.numa.net).

In addition to being the Chairman of NUMA, Cussler is also a fellow in both the Explorers Club of New York and the Royal Geographic Society in London. He has been honored with the Lowell Thomas Award for outstanding underwater exploration.

Cussler's books have been published in more than 40 languages in more than 100 countries. The author lives in Arizona.

    Enjoyable and fast-paced read

    I haven't quite finished the latest Isaac Bell venture, but I am so loving it. The historical aspect is particularly intriguing, and the return to one of my favorite Cussler characters is a joy. The plot is developing very nicely, and I can't wait to reach the inevitably fascinating conclusion. A must-read for airplane buffs.

    #4-NOT SO GREAT

    After having read the first 3 Isaac Bell series, which were fantastic-they grabbed you from the 1st page, this one #4 is quite a letdown. I've been waiting for months for its release. It was Very, very boring from beginning to end. I have read every previous Clive Cussler book ever published & they have all been wonderful!!! Not so this one. Boring!

    Cost

    Cussler is a amazing author. Love my nook. Yes e-books are kinda pricey, but its still a good 10 to 20 dollars cheaper. Plus portability is amazing.

    Disappointed

    The sequel to the other three Clive Cussler books is quite a disappointment for me because all the other ones were smash hits while this one is just plain boring. Seriously? Cussler could have done much better knowing he produced a LOT of good ones, I really hope the next one would be much more okay.

    The Race

    I have read every book written by Cussler. I am very disappointed in this one. The first half of the book was very slow. I almost decided not to finish it but I had to finish it. The second part around page 200 really started to pick up. BTW The term is not JURY RIGGED. It is JERRY RIGGED. I am so tired of people and the ignorance of the English language in this country.

    Good story

    Not as intriguing as Cusslers many other books but with a new
    co-writer, Justin Scott. I am not finished with this one.

    constant action as always

    Another great read

    I enjoyed this book very much. Isaac Bell is a great character and Clive Cussler is an phenominal writer. I definately recomment this book to any adventure reader.

    Highly Recommend

    Clive Cussler is just the greatest. I have read most of his books and have not found a bad one. The Race is terific, especially if you like the old days of flying machines. A great read.
