The owner of a tumble-down dollhouse neglects its shabby occupants for a more aristocratic dollhouse and tenants, until a princess comes to visit and likes the racketty-packetty house better.

This edition of Racketty Packetty House is by far my favorite. I ordered a Dover Thrift edition which arrived without any illustrations, of course. My daugther, who is 8 years old loved this edition with the pictures. The illustrator also illustrated Cynthia Rylant's Cobblestone Cousins series among other books.
As for the story, The Racketty Packetty House is the story of a family of dolls in a run down dollhouse. They have such fun with one another. A new house--a snobby house arrives as a gift for the little girl of the story. This book is the story of these two houses and a few fairies who help the Racketty Packetty house stave off destruction.
This book is one of a series of 4 books that Frances Hodgson Burnett wrote. I never read it as a child, but have thoroughly enjoyed reading it along with my girls (6 and 8).
