    Provocative

Radiant Hunger deals with a group of survivors from a cult, what it deals with on a broader level is an aspect of American culture that¿s rarely explored to this degree in contemporary literature. It¿s not always a pleasant book, but it¿s an important one. Aside from politics, the book is beautifully written, with descriptions as lyrical as any encountered in better known books. Radiant Hunger lingers long after you've finished it.

    Terrifying Obsessions

This should be required reading for anyone who wants to understand in a deep down visceral way the how and why people get into cults, or obsessive passions, or anti-government violence. Parts of this novel are difficult, sexually explicit, even harrowing. Women who've loved madly will identify (and cringe) with Ingrid. The scene with the children in the cow pasture is sheer magic. You move from one character to the next, which can be frustrating as you want to know more, but the next character is usually as interesting as the last and this provides a multifaceted view.
