Radical-in-Chief: Barack Obama and the Untold Story of American Socialism

Overview

President Barack Obama surprised many voters during a pre-election interview when he approvingly noted that Ronald Reagan had “changed the trajectory of America” in a way that other presidents had not. Overview

President Barack Obama surprised many voters during a pre-election interview when he approvingly noted that Ronald Reagan had “changed the trajectory of America” in a way that other presidents had not. In effect, Obama was saying that he, too, aimed to transform America in some fundamental way. Yet while Americans in 1982 may have been divided over Reagan’s politics, at least they knew what he stood for. Do we really understand Obama’s vision for our country?

In his controversial new book, veteran journalist Stanley Kurtz culls together two years of investigations from archives and never-before-tapped sources to present an exhaustively-researched exposé of President Obama’s biggest secret—the socialist convictions and tactical ruthlessness he has long swept under the rug.

A personable figure, a thoughtful politician, and an inspiring orator, Obama has hidden his core political beliefs from the American people—sometimes by directly misrepresenting his past and sometimes by omitting or parceling out damaging information to disguise its real importance. The president presents himself as a post-ideological pragmatist, yet his current policies grow directly from the nexus of socialist associates and theories that has shaped him throughout his adult life.

Kurtz makes an in-depth exploration of the president’s connections to radical groups such as ACORN, UNO of Chicago, the Midwest Academy, and the Socialist Scholars Conferences. He explains what modern “stealth” socialism is, how it has changed, and how it continues to influence the Democratic Party. He sheds light on what the New York Times called a “lost chapter” of the president’s life—his years at Columbia—and proves that Obama’s youthful infatuation with socialism was not just a phase. Those ideas have shaped his political views and set the groundwork for the long-term strategy of his administration.

It could be argued that Obama’s past no longer matters, but, in a sense, it matters more than the present. Obama has adopted the gradualist socialist strategy of his mentors, seeking to combine comprehensive government regulation of private businesses with a steadily enlarging public sector. Eventually, in his hands, capitalist America could resemble a socialist-inspired Scandinavian welfare state.

The gap between inner conviction and public relations in Obama’s case is vastly wider than for most American politicians. If Americans understood in 2008 the facts Kurtz reveals in this shocking political biography, Obama would not be president today. The fears of his harshest critics are justified: our Commander-in- Chief is a Radical-in-Chief.

Astonishing information the Left doesn't want you to have

This is one of the best books I have ever read. Don't trust the leftists trying to skew the rating system here, Stanley Kurtz's meticulously cited work does a lot more justice to the journalist profession than all of the leftist hacks on BSNBC combined. Spite your lefty friends and buy this EXCELLENT book right now.

    Highly recommend

This book reveals the true progressive agenda that Soros and his cronies have attempted to hide for the past decade. The progressive/socialist movement has truly been pushing its way into our culture for several decades. It just took a candidate like Obama, charismatic, professing change that we all hungered for, etc., to help usher it in. You must read this to see our leader and his true motives.

GARBAGE! If you must buy this book, get an e-version...don't waste the paper!

Hearsay and fiction framed as facts. Shame on Simon & Schuster for publishing it, not to mention Kurtz for writing it.

    Read and Beware

It is important for all of us in a democracy to read opposing views to understand what motivates those who think differently from us. There is, and has always been a strong undercurrent of authoritarianism embraced by a segment of the population. This book, like so many like it, frame the perceptions of the President as a threat; the Other, if you will. This perception has not been born out by the President's behavior. Most progressive thinkers believe his politics are center-right. However, we humans filter facts based on preconceived notions and the authoritarians among us will consistently see the President as a threat. Frankly, Mr. Obama is hardly radical in anything he has has done. But whatever he does will be described as radical, or racist, or subversive or threatening in some way or another. This book is one of many appealing to the unease a certain group of us will have while he serves and will continue after he steps down.

Have a long weekend? Give this tome a read

I started with the best intentions to read this book from cover to cover (as I always do when starting a good book), but it is a LONG, DETAILED read. I only got about 50% or so through the book, and I can say that Mr. Kurtz had sold me on his premise. A thorough (if not overly thorough, if this would be possible) exploration of President Obama's upbringing, from his early days of college, his formation of a worldview brought on by interactions with fellow students and a variety of "conferences," through to his community organizing days and on into his political career. Mr. Kurtz unearths enough information, when considered with the actions we've witnessed over the past two years of the President's term in office, that one cannot avoid the influences of Marx, Alinsky, Reverend Wright, the Socialist Scholars Conferences, ACORN and other others on Mr. Obama's approach to policy and governing?

Whether you believe the President is a socialist (one need not turn 100% of private industry into government-controlled interests to be a socialist), just MAYBE our current President has a few ties to key players and principles that come from such a political theory. Considering his policies and actions (ObamaCare, czar creation, spending, regulation, etc.), we should take him at his word when he says he wants to "fundamentally transform" our country. He's taken big enough steps that it may be really difficult to back away from the Leviathan of regulation and control he's created. Kurtz's writing does nothing more than show us how we arrived at this point in time.

    Must Read material!

Barack Obama has failed to fill in too many blanks regarding his background. This book gives the reader the complete background material for Obamas' political life. Those on the left should read this. Maybe it will open their eyes to the realities facing this country today.
