This book discusses modern dental radiographic methods and how they apply to the growing field of oral implantation. Its content and illustrations allow it to work best as a handbook or reference. The stated purpose of this book is to bridge the technology gap that exists between available technology and clinical practice. This well known problem in oral implantation will not be solved with the type of review found in this book, but rather by an innovative simplification of the technology for the average practitioner. Outwardly, this book is of interest to any practitioner or scientist involved with oral implants. In reality, it is most useful as a reference to the practitioner who practices in an academic/research environment, such as a large medical center. The authors are known in the academic community, especially in their native Belgium. Their experience in a European academic center limits the applicability of some of the technology to the rest of the world. This short book is well illustrated with radiographs and illustrations, but is underillustrated with clinical pictures to help bridge the technology gap. The book is well referenced with predominately European references. The radiographic guidelines listed are useful in planning and assessing endosseous implants. This short, underwhelming book on a complex topic is often a single chapter in more comprehensive texts on oral implantation. It is most useful to the practitioner in a large medical center who has the technology and specialists available. This book falls short in its stated purpose of bridging the technology gap for the average practitioner outside a large medical center. This purpose would best beaccomplished by making the technology more accessible and usable to the average practitioner.
