Editorial Reviews

VOYA
Twentyfirst century District Marshals Ty Merrick and Andy LaRue are given one last chance to keep their current jobs after failing their mental health evaluations. They must locate the murderer of opera singer Bernard Horn, who has been found dead in a Planetary Health Rejuvenation Facility where he was staying for arthritis treatment. The treatment facility is located in an abandoned uranium mine where radon gas is part of the therapy, and where several people report seeing "little alien beings" running around. Merrick and LaRue must work with two Environmental Tax Agency officersfuturistic IRS agentswho are also looking into Horn's murder. Merrick's ongoing problem with lycanthropy and a grassroots movement whose sole purpose is to overthrow the present government further complicate the investigation. This sixth book featuring Ty Merrick is an intriguing mix of science fiction, hardboiled police procedural mystery, and just a hint of the paranormal. The plot is narrated from Merrick's point of view, and her worldweary, cynical voice evokes images of the classic noir police detective. Skillfully juggling the book's complicated themes, the author ties up most plot threads while still leaving readers with a bit of a cliffhanger about Merrick's future. Perfect for older teens who are already fans of the series, The Radon File is also a great choice for any reader looking for a unique blend of motifs.
