More About This Book

Overview

Mara, the daughter of an Irish clansman, was raised to believe the men of the North are heathens - murderous pagans without a moral bone in their bodies. Despite warnings of the Northmen's raids, and the growing threat of another incursion, Mara is continually drawn to her favorite place - the River Shannon.

Dægan Ræliksen, a wealthy chieftain from Norway's frozen fjords, secretly discovers Mara at the water's edge. He is charmed by her beauty and sensuous grace. As the days pass, his contentment with simply watching her grows thin. He can no longer deny his unabated desire for the young maiden. His search for a wife has ended.

However, Mara and Dægan come face-to-face in a time when Ireland is in turmoil - when every Irishman is being called up to fight against the Nordic foreigners. In these times of upheaval, how can Dægan make peace with Mara's father and acquire the woman he treasures? Furthermore, can Mara move past her fears and find the noble man within the savage?

Loved it! I had never read a historical romance before this tril

Loved it! I had never read a historical romance before this trilogy and I wasn't sure what to think going into it. I didn't know anything about Irish history. Don't worry if you're not very aware of the historical aspects (it takes place in 916 AD). Renee Vincent informs you of the background surrounding the time period and what has been taking place. The entire book is very descriptive. From the very beginning you feel like you're there watching it all take place. Be aware...once you pick this up you won't want to put it down.

I highly recommend getting all 3 books at the same time because when you finish the first you're going to want to dive right into the second and third.

You won't want to put this one down!!!

    Review by Stephanie O: Honesty . . . Right?

That's what one looks for in a review. Since honesty is what we are giving here, it's safe to say that some reviews are much easier to write than others. So, still on my honesty kick here . . . I want to say, this review is NOT going to be an easy one to write.

    Where to begin (taps chin).

Daegan Raeliksen, the stuff dreams are made of . . you know, the good dreams! On a mission to find a wife, who would ever turn him down? Mara, unknowingly captures Daegan's heart. When things happen that throw Daegan and Mara together, he sees this as his chance to win not only her heart but her father's trust. Things don't always go as planned . . .

Now here is where my troubles come into play. I don't want to give you a step by step play of this book, and ruin a single thing for you. Let's just make a note that this reader LOVED this book. Every single one of the twists, turns, and Oh. My. Goodness. Moments. When you are finished are reading, may you find yourself sitting in shock asking yourself if that really just happened.

So, on that note . . grab your book and settle in for some marathon reading. Once you start your aren't going to want to put it down.

    timeless romantic adventure

The powerful and moving love story of Daegan Raeliksen and his Lady Mara will resonate long after the last page is read. This is historical romantic fiction at its best, written by an author inspired by the legends and lure of ancient Ireland and Norway. Renee Vincent has brought to life a turbulent time in history when cultures collided and to the victor went the spoils! Only a love story as intense as "Raeliksen" could match the true passions and intrigue of tumultuous Ireland of Olde! I so look forward to the next book in the Emerald Isle Trilogy, "Mac Liam", and then to the concluding third book! Not to be missed!

OMG I fell in love with Dægan! I loved this book so much I even bought the soundtrack. Wow,how many romance novel's out there have their own soundtrack? You can buy the soundtrack on itunes and at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mocaoinleain. I think the sequel MacLiam comes out sometime later this year.

"A RADIANT ROMANCE OF TENDER FEELINGS AND SWEET SURPRISES!"

The setting of this novel takes place in Connacht, Ireland 916 AD. As we
reflect back in time to the Early Middle Ages, it was an era when Ireland was in turmoil, Irish countryside became a battlezone, and was eventually
overrun by chieftains. It was a time when the Irish were warned about
Northmen raids. A time in Ireland when there was much more at stake than
just a claim on Ireland's flourishing port, and a time where a brick
wall was created between Christian, and Pagan men. During this era, there were two sides to the Northmen, those who terrorized, and those who wanted
peace in a feuding world. However, many of Ireland's children were raised to believe that the Northmen were murderers, thieves, and savages. These children believed that Northmen had no morals and values. Therefore, these children grew up fearing Northmen. Mara was one of these children, but despite all beliefs, nothing stopped her from visiting the River Shannon, which was her favorite place. She visited the river often, where
she would sing the songs her mother taught her. From the age of nine, after Mara's mother passed away, the River Shannon became a beautiful memory of Mara's visions of her Mom. No one ever knew of Mara's secret, except Daegan, who was the son of Raelik. He would hide from her, but watched her many times as she sang at the river, while secretly falling in love with her. He wasn't brave enough to tell her until he saved her life from a group of criminals heading to the river. At the age of sixteen, Mara began to fall in love with Daegan, but feared what actions would be taken against him when her father finds out. What would her people think, the daughter of the King of Connacht, in love with a
heathen? What challenges must Mara and Daegan face, after Daegan safely returns her home? The ever-rising hostility and outrage in Ireland existed, but not between Mara and Daegan. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys historical romance with a blend of drama. The setting is painted with vivid descriptions of Ireland in its true beauty, the plot is electrifying, and the romance is sizzling. Renee Vincent painted
the three great virtues of Ireland page-after-page, honor, chivalry, and love of freedom. How often did brutal contacts occur, and were all Northmen monsters? Will Mara have to struggle for survival after her father finds out about her relationship with Daegan? Will Daegan be executed? Will Mara ever fill the empty space in Daegan's heart, or will she run in fear? "RAELIKSEN" is as captivating as A WALK TO REMEMBER, and as inspiring as THE COURAGE TO LOVE with Vanessa Williams.

    SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A WONDERFUL book until you get to the last ten pages. A very sad ending to a character that I fell in love with. I felt sad and depressed for days. This book gets five stars up until the end and then I give it one star. Terrible ending. What was renee Vincent thinking when she wrote this ending!

Great story with lessons we can all learn from

You will be engaged by this book from the moment you open it. An absolutely great read!

The writing paints scenes so vivid you will think you are there, but the real artistry is in the plots and subplots. I found especially interesting the battle between a polytheistic religion and christianity. Bottom line: I can't wait to read the next book.

An engrossing love story that paints a vivid, yet authentic portrait of days gone by

An avowed devotee of all things historical fiction, I have pretty high standards for what I consider a good read, and Ræliksen certainly qualifies. From her descriptions of the picturesque Irish countryside, to her electrifying depictions of swordplay and chivalry, Renee Vincent is an extremely adept storyteller who leaves her readers anxious to take in every word.

Ræliksen's characters live and breath on the page, especially its heroes, Dægan and Mara. The bond forged between these dynamic individuals doesn't come easily, and the challenges they face in coming together makes their story all the more real. I eagerly await the continuation of Dægan and Mara's story in the series' second installment--Mac Liam.

So if you're looking for a tale that effortlessly blends romance and action, while staying true to the historical record, I can't recommend Ræliksen enough.

    Excellent story!!

Raeliksen is a beautiful story that is absolutely packed with emotion. It truly allows you to escape to a different time so that I felt like I was part of the story. I could just picture the sea and the cliffs. I loved the plot twists and turns and the ending is amazing. I will be anxiously awaiting the sequal, "Mac Liam".

A historical romance well worth the read...

From the moment I read the teaser, I could not help but wonder why Mara believed all Vikings to be "heathens" and honestly, what made them so. Raeliksen is a beautifully written, descriptive love story with some unexpected twists and turns. Immediately, I fell in love with the characters, and her use of vivid descriptions described the settings perfectly. After finishing the book, I truly wanted more and look forward to reading Ms. Vincent's upcoming sequel, "Mac Liam."
