Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Ragdoll cats appear to be just as fluffy and soft as their name implies. Appealing photographs accompany the descriptions of this breed of domestic cat. This nonfiction text in the Checkerboard Animal Library "Cats" series, explains that these cats are hybrids and were created by selective breeding. A unique characteristic is that they tend to go limp in one's arms when picked up. Short chapters of two pages each tell about their other qualities, their coat and color, size, care, and feeding. Specific directions are given about how to care for the cat, such as trimming its claws, grooming its hair, and getting it vaccinated. There is a chapter about feeding the cats and another about kittens, concerning their characteristics and care. Information in the last chapter provides suggestions about buying a kitten. A table of contents, a glossary, website resources, and an index are included. Words, in bold print throughout the book, are defined in the glossary. This text is a good reference resource for libraries and schools, and young readers should find it interesting and informative. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
