This Author tells it like it is..an exceptional relating of the hardships that face so many of our youth these days that go untold. A must read book for any parent that has a child being bullied, that has had dramatic mood swings or is just having trouble, it may just give some insight into what is going on in their life..Really hard to put down..Keep up the good work Kim, you know that I love you!! (yes I know this author personally, her mother and me were close friends in high school, and was really surprised to learn that she was published!!!)

    Compelling story

Hard to put down. This was a very sad story. Although it is fiction it very well could have been a true story.

    Tears are flowing

Tears are flowing as i read this book. I have just started reading this and i see my wonderful normal grandson last year. He started a new school and we pulled him out two months later. For whatever reason the boys atthe school srarted bulling him ans spreading lies about him. Soon the girls joined in. He felt as if he looked"other than" he almost broke. At this years school it couldn't be more opposite. I feel it is almost a ferel thing, this bullying. I pray for all the kids who feel "other than".

    GRIPPING!!!

Wow!! This is something you just have to experience to believe. Get the tissues ready for you would truly have to have a hardened heart to not be affected by this story. Though a piece of fiction, this is a story that could be straight out of the headlines of any newspaper across the country. It is NOT a story for young children, or (in my opinion) even a story for young teens. The abuse this child suffers is VERY graphic. I read this book in a day because I just could not put it down. I had to find out how the story ended. It gripped me in one of those "can't look away from the horrible car accident" kind of ways.

This was my first read from this author and I must say that she really told a horrible story in a way that made me feel the rage the main character felt throughout. I was hoping, since this was a fictional piece, that there would be a redeeming ending, one where he found happiness; however, as is so often the case in real life, happy endings don't always occur. Or, maybe in this child's case, he finally does find happiness in something as small as a kiss. One can only hope.

Thank you Ms. Bennett for tackling such a very delicate topic without much delicacy. I think sometimes you have to hit hard to make people listen.

    Enlightening

The job of a great author, is, to put the reader in the shoes of the main character. Have the reader feel exactly how that character feels. Hate what they hate, feel sorry for what they feel sorry for, love what they love, etc. Miss Bettes does a wonderful job here. Graphic? ... I'd say Descriptive. You can't help but feel for this child after the very first paragraph. You know right away where this story is leading, but the author takes you on this emotional journey that is sure to keep you reading long after you wan't to stop. As readers, we must understand that this is fiction. However, as real life people, we must also understand that this is a reality.

    Heartbreaking story

This book was well written. My heart ached for this boy and even though this book was fiction i know this is a reality all over the world. Even though this book is graphic the author did a great job with the story. As for people who don't fairly review a book but only write it was too graphic and violent: you need to grow up. People who can't read a story that had obvious signs of abuse and could help instead turn their heads and ignore which is hat happened to brian. No where to turn or noone to listen. This was a great book that was well developed and WELL worth reading. Be brave and read brians story and who knows you may be able to help a child in need.

    Stopped on page 71.

Could not read this. Too much violence happening to a 13 yr old boy! I know this happens in the real world but I just cant read about it. It may be a good book and end up with a good message in it, but I just cant read any more. It makes me sick from what little I did read.

    Page-turner

Disturbing and sometimes hard to read (due to graphic - but not gratuitous - descriptions of abuse) but just as hard to put down. Scary, but eye-opening.

Great Job Kim! Put The Issue Into The Spotlight

This book made me so sad, not only as a mother, but as a human. How could anyone treat a defenseless child this way?! Of all the "authority figures" at school, not ONE cared or even noticed what he was going through? Unacceptable.
It's even sadder that, while this is a fiction book, there are kids who go through this, and much worse, in reality.
We have to do better as parents, and as human beings
