Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Annie and her doll Raggedy Ann take a trip to the beach in this new book in the Raggedy Ann and Me! series. On the sturdy board book pages (the book can be carried via a die-cut handle) the story frames a question: "Annie has forgotten to pack her favorite beach toy. What is Annie's favorite beach toy?" The answer is found by removing a cardboard piece, in this case a ball, with the corresponding word shown underneath. After a day in the sun and sand, Raggedy Ann enjoys her "favorite treat"-a press-out popsicle. The interactive component adds dimension to this basic lesson in objects. Ages 3-5. (May)

This shaped board book has a handle so that kids can tote it along, and it also contains press-out play pieces. (If they do get lost, the book can still be enjoyed because the image of the play piece is printed on the page.) In this simple story Annie and her doll Raggedy Ann are headed for the beach. The book poses questions and the picture/play pieces offer a picture of the answer. To illustrate "what can Raggedy Ann use to gather some sand?," the press-out is a big, green shovel and that is the answer. The picture on the opposing page also contains the item in question, so there are plenty of clues to help young ones come up with the correct answer. Part of the "Raggedy Ann and Me!" series, and a good choice for fans. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

Johnny Gruelle‘s Raggedy Ann and Andy

stories have warmed the hearts of

children for decades. Johnny, a talented

cartoonist, illustrator, and storyteller,

began writing stories about Raggedy

Ann as a way to entertain his ailing

daughter, Marcella. Those stories,

published in memoriam, went on to

become American classics. Cherished

through many generations, the

adventures of Raggedy Ann, a mopheaded

rag doll found in a

grandmother’s attic, have been shared

for generations between parents and

children and grandparents and

grandchildren.
