Overview

In New York Times Bestselling author Richard Castle's newest novel, an illegal immigrant falls from the sky and NYPD Homicide Detective Nikki Heat's investigation into his death quickly captures the imagination of her boyfriend the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Jameson Rook. When he decides to work the case with Heat as his next big story, Nikki is at first happy to have him ride along. Yes, she must endure Rook's usual wild conspiracy speculations and adolescent wisecracks, but after reuniting following his recent assignment abroad, she's glad for the entertainment, the chance to bounce ideas, and just to be close to him again and feel the old spark rekindle. But when Rook's inquiry concludes that Detective Heat has arrested the wrong man for the murder, everything changes.

Balancing her high stakes job with a complicated romance has been a challenge ever since Nikki fell for the famous reporter. Now, her relationship lurches from mere complexity into sharp conflict over the most high-risk case of her career. Set against the raging force of Hurricane Sandy as it pounds New York, Heat battles an ambitious powerbroker, fights a platoon of urban mercenaries, and clashes with the man she loves. Detective Heat knows her job is to solve murders. She just worries that solving this one will be the death of her relationship.

I always enjoy Richard Castle's books. I like the balance of humor and serious dialogue. Also, because I am a fan of the show, I find that I can visualize the characters better and it makes for a really enjoyable read.

I'm a big fan of Castle and love the Nikki Heat books. Would someone please explain to me why this e-book would cost $26!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is just outrageous! Hopefully no one will pay such an exorbitant price for ANY e-book. No paper, no ink, no shipping - where's the cost factor - other than the royalties and any web fees. I just don't get it!

Beware Falling Bodies It’s been a couple of years since Nikki Heat finally solved the murder of her mother, and the resulting years have provided a routine to her life.  All that is about to change when a body falls into her case load – literally.   The man falls from the sky into the local planetarium.  There’s no ID, and very little of him left to identify.  Yet slowly Nikki begins making her case, a case that seems to be leading to a commissioner for the Port Authority.  Meanwhile, her boyfriend Rook has developed some leads that point in other directions.  Whose intel is correct?  Can Nikki make a case against a man so well connected?  And will Nikki and Rook’s relationship survive this case?   While I had realized that the original few books in the series took place in a compressed time frame, I wasn’t sure if they were playing into that on purpose or not.  Obviously they are since even with the two year time leap, this book takes place in the run up to Hurricane Sandy.  That makes an interesting backdrop that adds to the story.   As always, the story is strong, and the added conflict over the competing theories heightens the tension of the book.  It also allows for some interesting character development, which I really enjoyed.  Fans of the TV show Castle will enjoy seeing the nods to the show, but anyone who enjoys a good mystery will still find the case presented here to be very compelling reading.   I have definitely come to look forward to these books, and this one didn’t disappoint.  If you are a fan of the show, you really should give the books a try.
