Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Thomas the Tank and his railway friends are the brightly-colored toys so popular with toddlers. Each car or vehicle has a distinct personality and many youngsters know them all by name. This sturdy, thick, padded-cover book is ideal as a gift book for the young fan of Thomas and his cleverly named friends, each of whom is honored in rhyme. The first poem, appropriately enough, is about Thomas who is a little tank engine and there are three rhymes about Gordon, "big and strong" who is "pulling the express along." Some of the poems are short, some long, but they all capture the distinct personality of the vehicle celebrated whether it is Cranky, Salty, Bertie, Emily, Toby or Harold the Helicopter. There is an underlying sweetness in the stories about Thomas and that is evident in these rhymes as well. The illustrations are classic Thomas the Tank as the book is based upon "The Railway" series by the Reverend W. Awdry. 2005, Random House, Ages 3 to 6.

    more from this reviewer

If you enjoy Thomas, but aren't sure about who everyone is... Here's your answer.

My 2 year old loves Thomas. This is a great read for short story times. It tells you a little about most of the characters. It's short and colorful - which is great for little attention spans!

Thomas the Tank in rhyme with morals

Bought this book as a "sit beside me while I read to you" book for my two-year-old grandson who loves Thomas the Tank. He can't read yet, of course, but he is enthralled by the pictures and the overall stories as I read them to him. His parents, both elementary school administrators, think its one of the best books he's "read." He is able to identify almost all of the "characters" as they appear on the pages.

The perfect bedtime book for boys!

This book works every time. Once we are done with our bath etc I tell my son it is time to read Thomas and he runs for the bedroom. The book stays by his crib so and he is usually ready for sleep after just a few verses. Sometimes he just wants to look at the pictures just before he falls asleep.

    Great book!

My 2 year old son loves this book of poetry. He is a huge Thomas fan & knows all the trains by name. This book has all of his favorites in it & tells you about them in poetry form. It's a large book, but you can pick a few poems to read each night. I highly recommend it.

My nephew loves Thomas the Train.

This book is excellent. I love that this book practices rhyming and entertains young readers.
