Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Award-winning author/illustrator Marcus Pfister is Swiss born and bred, but his Rainbow Fish creation is truly international, as evidenced by its translation into 80 languages and worldwide sales in the millions of copies. In this triumphant climax to the series, Rainbow Fish discovers the deep blue sea.
Children's Literature - Sharon Salluzzo
When Rainbow Fish loses his last sparkling silver scale into the depths of the ocean, he dives down deep to retrieve it, despite the warnings of his friends. They tell him not to go down there because "strange creatures" live there. Although frightened at first, Rainbow Fish soon meets a firefly squid who agrees to help find the scale. They meet both friendly and dangerous creatures. At last, Rainbow Fish finds his scale, attaches it, and returns home. His friends are delighted to see him and they ask about the creatures in the deep. Rainbow Fish replies, "They looked different, but they turned out to be wonderful friends." Pfister addresses xenophobia and making new friends in a simple, reassuring tale just right for the start of school or any new situation a child may encounter. The light blue of the sea gives way to deep blues and purples as Rainbow Fish goes deeper into the water. Each page offers eye-catching creatures in various colors, shapes, and designs, which will keep the attention of young children. Although they do not have the same scales as Rainbow Fish, these sea creatures have a glow of their own. Reviewer: Sharon Salluzzo
