Look—a rainbow of colors is showering down on the animals!

This very simple, beautiful, and innovative concept book shows children how primary colors magically blend to create secondary ones. Die-cut raindrops with a see-through shaded acetate appear throughout; when the acetates are layered on top of each other, a new color emerges! So it’s easy to see—and understand—how blue and red make purple; red and yellow make orange; blue and yellow make green . . . . and how, all together, they create a gorgeous rainbow!

The delightful art showcases a cute and cuddly-looking group of animals trying to escape the rain—and each one has an adorable accessory, be it a pinwheel, fancy hat, or bright umbrella.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Mary Quattlebaum
A purple parrot and a pink pig lead a rainy-day romp in this delightful debut picture book by local author Chieu Anh Urban. Tots can learn about colors and have fun shouting "Go! Go! Go!" as a yellow yak, orange octopus and red robin join the rush to a sunny spot. They can also peer through the large raindrop-shaped panel on each page to see how certain colors (blue and yellow, for example) blend to create new colors (green). The bright, whimsical illustrations by Viviana Garolfoli are the perfect complement to the spare, alliterative text. On the final double-page spread, a rainbow reprises all the colors. No matter the weather, this board book will provide hours of fun. Reviewer: Mary Quattlebaum
Kirkus Reviews
A blue butterfly, red rooster, purple parrot and pink pig are joined by a bevy of other fancifully colored animals in a run along a rainy beach that culminates (rather inexplicably) in a frolic under the sun. Inset into each animal is a raindrop-shaped cutout that contains a sheet of clear, colored plastic; when layered over one another, they combine to make the appropriate color-so when kids turn the page, the yellow yak's raindrop overlays the red robin's to make the orange octopus. The line-up of animals is punctuated by long shots of them all scampering through the rain ("GO! GO! GO!") and then playing in the sun. If the plot isn't much, Garofoli's playful, big-bellied critters-most accessorized fetchingly-will charm readers. Fun, with a little subtle instruction on color mixing. (Board book. 1-3)
Publishers Weekly
This cheery book uses animals to show how blending colors creates new ones. Raindrop-shaped die-cut windows hold colored acetate inserts, so the cutout on a robin’s red wing matches a yak’s yellow die-cut, creating an orange window for a goofy orange octopus. In between the color-focused pages, the animals flee a gathering rainstorm: “Go! Go! Go!” Not all cutouts (for a pink pig, black bear, and others) are transparent, leading to some dead ends, in terms of color mixing, but overall it’s a winning visual effect. Ages 3–5. (Apr.)

    Great Baby Shower Gift

Very cute book about colors. Wording is simple, so it is especially good for under 3 years old. Creative concept of layering the colored cellophane panels to show how combining colors makes new ones. Illustrations are cute. I've given this as a baby shower gift multiple times.
