Overview

Three bestselling novels together in one omnibus. MOON DANCE: Mother, wife, private investigator...vampire. Six years ago federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire. Now the world at large thinks Samantha has developed a rare skin disease, a disease which forces her to quit her day job and stay out of the light of the sun. Now working the night shift as a private investigator, Samantha is hired by Kingsley Fulcrum to investigate the murder attempt on his life, a horrific scene captured on TV and seen around the country. But as the case unfolds, Samantha discovers Kingsley isn't exactly what he appears to be; after all, there is a reason why he survived five shots to the head. DARK HORSE takes place in Huntington Beach, California. Surf City, USA. Written in the tradition of Robert B. Parker's Spenser and Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe, Dark Horse introduces a new hard-hitting, wise-cracking hero with a modern twist. When high school student Derrick Booker, the only black student at a posh Orange County high school, is accused of killing his white girlfriend, ex-college football hero and detective Jim Knighthorse is hired to dig a little deeper into the murder. It doesn't take long for Knighthorse to realize that not all is as it seems at tranquil Huntington High, from a band director who preys on the innocent to a vice-principal with a secret agenda of her own. Not to mention someone's hired a professional killer to keep Knighthorse permanently off the case. THE VAMPIRE WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO: Three years ago, high school student Veronica Fortune witnessed the brutal murder of her parents. Now armed and dangerous, she sets out to hunt down the very thing that destroyed her life. That is, until she disappears. Spinoza is a private investigator who specializes in finding the missing. He's good at what he does. Damn good. But he's also a recovering alcoholic and a royal mess. Hired to find Veronica, Spinoza won't let his personal demons—or demons of any kind—get in the way of finding the truth about the missing girl. Now following a bizarre set of clues that leads him into stranger and stranger territory, Spinoza is about to come face-to-face with something legendary...and something hungry for blood.

Vampires, werewolves and conceited asses, in this 1000 plus pages book containg three unrelated stories.

This novel contains three books all over 300 pages long. It is written in first person format. It needs some minor editing. I read the first book a murder mystery about a vampire PI, a werewolf lawyer and a possible frankenstein butler named Franklin in less then two hours. I found some parts of the book disturbing, not because of the gore and paranormal activities, but because of feeling so incredibly sorry for the main character. She has a hard row to hoe. The second book was not quite as well written and lacked the easy flow of the first book. The main character was a horse's ass. (Pun intended on his name) The third book was better than the second, but still not as good as the first. I am not into paranormal books. I did not realize its genre until a few pages in. Once I start a book, I always try to finish it, unless it is horrible to the extreme. I was able to finish all three of these, which surprized me. For lovers of the paranormal genre, ages 18 and up, due to sexual content, length, violence and psyhcological impact.

    Three very entertaining reads

All three stories within this volume were very entertaining to me, although I had a hard time liking the central figure Jim Lighthorse in one of them, probably because I knew someone just as conceited as this character. However, like the other two first-person stories, ol' Jim came through at the end, solving his case just as he should bve expected to. I was impressed by the author's character building and locale descriptions, as well as the strength of the story lines, and I will look forward to other works by the same author, even those about ol' Jim.

Rainy Nights gives the reader a taste of three different stories

Rainy Nights gives the reader a taste of three different stories by J.R. Rain, with all three being excellent mystery/urban fantasy works.  If you're a fan of the genre, as the book is currently a free release as of this review posting, you should definitely check it out.  All three stories have follow-ups a plenty, though the Samantha Moon stories are Rain's flagship series and the longest running.

    Highly recommend

Very entertaining reading. Highly recommend! JR Rains has an easy gong style and a great imagination. An interesting twist on the vampire and other "creatures of the night" character profile.
