Overview

Electronic began as a side project for New Order's Bernard Sumner and the Smiths' Johnny Marr, dabbling in the sort of '80s synth-pop pioneered by the former's band. Raise the Pressure is not so firmly planted in that genre -- there's still a good deal of retro electronica, but Marr brings in more guitar work, making the album more of a straight-ahead pop affair. Some of the songs are Brit-pop at its finest ("Forbidden City," "For You,"), and others hint at New Order's oeuvre (&"Dark Angel") -- some engage in a more danceable pop style reminiscent of the Pet Shop Boys. Solid writing and a few new tricks keep it from becoming an exercise in mid-'80s English nostalgia.

This was a hard to find CD that was no longer available as new purchase. I bought this as used but in the "like new" category. I am glad to have it. I have all the CDs Electronic made. The first (self titled) and the last "Twisted Tenderness". All are excellent! I am a fan of New Order and Electronic has Bernard Sumner vocalist and guitarist from New Order plus Johnny Marr from the Smiths. I have never heard a song from New Order or Electronic that I didn't like. The music and lyrics are always interesting and worth listening to over and over. Some songs make you get up and dance!!! Mr. Sumner is extremely talented! I hope he continues to write music and play until he is bored with it. He seems to never run out ideas and good music, since Joy Division to New Order to Electronic. He is an incredible musician! Now, if only New Order would tour the US and come to Florida. This is one group I would love to see before I die! New Order is my favorite band of all time!!! Electronic comes in second:)! Best Wishes to All!!! Rita in Satellite Beach, Florida
