Meet the Author

My name is Keith Helinski. I am a prospering, aspiring, and determined writer of sorts. My writing career began in the year, 1998, when I was just a little 7th grader. I started writing short stories for my English class. I even won Young Authors at my school that year. Though there were gaps and periods throughout the years in which I wasn't writing heavily, I don't think I completely stopped writing.I provided movie/DVD/Blu Ray reviews for MovieFreak.com over the years (so the pesky negative reviews I get from time to time from Kindle/Nook readers doesn't exactly hurt feelings, since I've had my share of fun bashing other people's work!) So if you Google search me, I am all over the 'net (which has its pros and cons - the cons, you can't erase poorly written reviews from years ago!)Getting back to my story here, my itch to write short stories again started a couple of years ago. And I haven't been able to scratch that itch since.I love this job! I love writing. I love jumping around from story to story. I love pushing myself and experimenting to see where I can take my writing (and imagination). I love the freedom of writing, and the ability to write whatever I want. I love learning how to perfect my craft, and improving from my last project. And I love reader's reactions (positive or negative). I love the whole package deal!Every single author/writer says that there is magic in writing. It's like being on cloud nine: no one can touch you. Sure, the daggers are set at the heart once the creation is out there. But no one can touch you at the very moment you are in that mindset of piecing letters and words together to create a story. It's an escape, an escape from the harsh reality of this gloom-and-doom world, even if you are writing a gloom-and-doom story. It's also a lonely job, which is what I enjoy the most out of it. I am not bothered. My only regret is not having enough time to do this job.K.H.wastinawaypress.com/facebook.com/pages/Wastin-Away-Press/126165614143555

...it's hard to predict how a story is perceived by readers. Some sell well. Some do not. And just the same, some of my stories sell well. Some do not. However, I had a good feeling about `Raise Your Glass,' and knew the kind of reaction I would get: mix.

The same amount of people that likes it, hates it. Every time there is a negative review, a positive review counters the negative review. Then a negative review pops up. And the praise/criticism seems to be consistent as well.

The people that criticizes the story thinks a) I don't have the right to mock the series because I haven't finished all of the movies (though I would say after endearing the first two, I have enough knowledge at least) and b) I come off as just whiny, which might be true, but isn't it also whiny to whine about a whiner?!?

The people that praise the story got the humor behind the story, were able to laugh out loud, and I didn't exactly ruin their lives as a result. Some of these people are even Twilight fans that realize the popularity of this series is a little silly, and the gist of `Raise Your Glass' wasn't to criticize 4 of the greatest books of all time(!111111), but rather, the Twi-nerds themselves.

And I think that's why this story got some people offended. One reviewer (on Amazon) even mention that this story could be about anything; Star Wars fans, religious people, sports fans, any types of people really. Sure, I had fun knocking down Twilight (it isn't hard, really!) But the essence wasn't about Twilight but just being somewhere that you don't want to be at, tortured by being in the middle of a group of people that are passionate over a subject you don't care for, and watching these enthused people act lower than their own intelligence. This could have been about a Star Trek convention, and I would have gotten the same reaction by Trekkies and non-Trekkies.

But because I chose to pick on Twilight fans, the sensitivity level is a lot higher. The Twilight series is really geared toward the female pre-teen/teen/20-something/and cougar audience. They know what they like, and considering they are gullible to buy every TEAM JACOB/TEAM EDWARD item from Hot Topic/Torrid, of course they are going to get insulted by `Raise Your Glass.' If I was that deluded, I would even be insulted!

I had fun writing the story. I had fun publishing it. And I am having fun watching reader's reaction. I smile just as much when I read a negative review from a pissed off Twilight-er, especially the ones that criticize my criticism while spelling criticize wrong! I love the Barnes/Noble crowd. You guys make me LOL! Please, keep it going!!! - K.H.

    Team Edward&Jacob

I think that this book is a total waste of time. The twilight saga is a good series of books. This offended me cause i love the books. This person havnt even read the whole series and then go write a book about it to critisice the saga. I think this person should shut up. If this person didnt like the books then why would they read the second book or even finish the first book? Dont waste your time reading this book if you like the twilight saga. But if you hate the twilight saga then go ahead and read it but remember if you comment on this book then people are going to hate you more cause they go think you are a hater. And by the way i love both edward and jacob but i love edward the most. #proud of my comment
