Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The format of this book closely parallels Lyle Micheli's Sportsense for the Young Athlete ( LJ 7/90). Both contain excellent guidance for parents, and cover nutrition, injuries, conditioning, handicapped participation, and pros and cons of sports for young athletes. The health fitness chapter in Sportsense is superior. Raising a Healthy Athlete is oriented primarily to athletic competition, and it does a better job of philosophically answering the question, ``Should your child play sports?'' It discusses specific sports in more depth and has greater detail in the chapter on injuries. Although the books differ on topics such as who should give pre-sports physicals, both are accurate, easy to understand, and cover the important issues involved in youth sport participation.-- Kenneth Tillman, Trenton State Coll., N.J.
