Winner of the Nautilus Book Awards Gold Medal for “BESTPARENTING BOOK OF THE YEAR”

Greene, a Stanford pediatrician and author of the popular website drgreene.com, teams up with a consumer health reporter and anauthor of parenting books to give parents ecofriendly options forpregnancy, birth, and parenting. Everything from choosing the bestdiapers to selecting nontoxic nursery paint and organic baby foodis offered along with commonsense advice about diaper rash and foodallergies. These are excellent companions to more traditionalparenting books by the likes of T. Berry Brazelton. (LibraryJournal, February 1, 2008)

"a leading figure in the green baby movement." (LibraryJournal, January 2008)

In this second of only two recently published books onenvironmentally friendly child rearing—the other beingKimberly Rider’s Organic Baby: Simple Steps for HealthyLiving—pediatrician Greene (Stanford Univ. Sch. of Medicine)provides an exemplary information and reference resource forparents concerned with doing their part to raise a healthy child inan ecoconscious manner. Organized by developmental stages, the textfeatures Greene advising on what to feed the baby and how toadminister medicine safely; Jeanette Pavini, a consumer watchreporter for CBS Eyewitness News in San Francisco, recommends howto shop responsibly for diapers, bedding, cribs, toys, etc. Whilethe book is specifically geared toward new parents, its well-citeddata about environmental hazards, coupled with the practical tipsfor green living, are suitable for anyone wanting to learn moreabout individual efforts to increase environmental sustainability.A solid niche filler on green parenting; recommended for all publiclibraries.
—Susan E. Thomas, Indiana Univ. Lib., South Bend (LibraryJournal, October 23, 2007)

Pediatrician Greene, a leading figure in the green babymovement, enthusiastically discusses everything from what to takewith you to the delivery room to questions to ask hospitals/birthcenters, about how green they are. "Buying Green" text boxes givecontact info for recommended retailers or products of all types, useful for comparison shopping. (LJ Xpress Review,10/16/07)

"Pediatrician Greene's informative guide for raising children inthe most environmentally friendly way possible makes for somefascinating (and surprising) reading. From pregnancy and childbirthto nursery design and gardening, Greene covers hundreds ofquestions and situations new parents will face and provides anonstop flow of sensible answers. His evenhanded tone makes this anexcellent choice for audiences as varied as committed vegans tothose who are considering purchasing organic milk. There is nopressure to "convert," and readers will find plenty of options forhow little or much they want to commit to a new lifestyle. Thebook's layout is particularly impressive, with boxed comments fromother parents, lists of recommended products and food, and numerouslinks to helpful sites. From diapers to food allergies, Greene hasa thoughtful, nonbiased response to nearly every question a newparent could have. He gives his own opinions, but always states asmuch, and never! derides the choices of others. An excellent choicefor those who don't know where to begin when it comes toenvironmental parenting." A great place to start!

Now that we are expecting our first born, we're even more aware of the impact little things can have on us and certainly on our unborn child. This book is a great starting reference point for making the gradual move over to a totally green lifestyle. Dr. Greene acknowledges in the text that being able to do everything suggested is probably unlikely, so he gives plenty of solid information to work from - allowing you to do exactly as much as you can afford\ are willing to do. Even little changes make a difference longterm.

    Informative and Thought Provoking

This book is amazing! It is written in a very easy to follow format that is broken down into sections so it is easy to find things again, such as Kitchen, Bathroom, et. It gives fact based information as well as hands on ideas that you can do in your home. It makes it very easy to do small steps to change your lifestyle without turning your life upsidedown. I loved the product reviews and the great website lists in the back.

    Indespensible

was absolutely thrilled to read this book, knowing it's available for parents' planning on having children. Raising Baby Green is an essential guide to protect your baby from what are mostly unseen dangers. These dangers are found in everyday products everyone uses--from food, to personal baby care products to baby furniture and much more. They are the pesticides, chemicals, preservatives and additives that can harm babies. The book covers everything you need to raise a child in the safest possible manner, beginning in the womb. The book guides to help make non-toxic and safe choices for everything that affects the baby. The bonus is that a green lifestyle is beneficial to everyone in the family and for the environment as well. A reviewer

I believe this is the first green parenting book written by a pediatrician. It's packed with authoritative and reliable advice. There are also hundreds of useful consumer tips and green product recommendations for babies. I noticed that it's also printed on 100% recycled paper, so right away you feel good about buying it! Illustrated & beautiful! Also very complete index and appendix of green resources.
