Overview

Buffalo, New York—Thundering waterfalls, great sports teams . . . and a treacherous vampire lord who is slowly losing his mind.

New York City vampire Rajmund Gregor is the undisputed master of The Big Apple. He bows to no one but his Sire, the Vampire Lord Krystof, who has ruled the Northeast for hundreds of years. But when Krystof summons Rajmund to his headquarters in Buffalo, Raj finds his master slowly descending into madness and his territory crumbling around him.

Raj is the only one of Krystof's children strong enough to seize power, but he’ll have to save his master before he can destroy him.

Several women have gone missing, and the local police are convinced a vampire is behind it. Is Krystof so lost to reality that he’s capturing and murdering human women? Is a rogue vampire moving into Krystof’s territory for the kill? Or is it something far more insidious, something that could threaten the existence of vampires everywhere?

Sarah Stratton is living a lie. Her past holds a secret she shares with no one—not even her good friend Cynthia Leighton, the West Coast vampire lord’s mate. It's a secret that could destroy her carefully constructed life as a professor at a Buffalo university. It’s also a secret that could save the lives of the missing women. To save them, however, she must enter Buffalo’s vampire community and put herself into the care of Rajmund Gregor.

But can she trust Raj, the dangerously seductive vampire who wants to lay claim to far more than her secrets?

I LOVE LOVE this series!!!!!!

Rajmund is a powerful vampire and meant to be a Lord.  He is also hot and fighting his growing attraction to Sarah.  Sarah needs to stay off the radar and being with around a vampire like Rajmund is making that impossible.  The problem is they cannot resist each other.   Thank you BelleBooks and NetGalley for ARC.

This is such a great series! I love the characters, plot, action, vampire politics, oh heck everything, LOL (oh yes, and the steamy sex too! - though unlike some vampire romance novels, this one doesn't force the steamy parts into every crevice of the book - it's definitely a romance, but there's PLOT and the girl doesn't helplessly fall for the guy, nor is she completely stupid in her rebuttal of him). Make sure you read the books in order! While it's not strictly necessary, each one does build on the characters introduced in previous books (specially the couple introduced in books 1 & 2, they're our gateway to all the other books and often have very integral rolls in all the other books).

I received this book for review from the publisher through Net Galley This is the fourth book I have read in this series and it has been interesting to see how the series works its way up to book 6, the first one I read.  Reading in order this is the first book that ventures away from Cyn and Raphael as being the center of the story line.  The couple is only barely in book 6 so it looks like the author is going to wean us off them bit by bit.  They show up in the very beginning of this story and again at the end as a cliffhanger that I hope is resolved in the next book.  This is Sarah and Rajmund’s story though and and they play the most prominent roll.  Again I find myself unsure how to rate this book, 3 or 4 stars, so I will wait to the end to make my final decision. I like the change of direction in this series.  It was nice to get out of the West coast and be introduced to a new lord’s territory  and see how he came to power.  Some of the same themes are used in this book as in others in this series.  We are again dealing with a missing person and one half of the love interest that has trouble committing to a relationship.  Guns play a less prominent roll, but we don’t see a decrease in violence.  They are vampires after all.  We do get to catch a glimpse of what the vamps would be like if left to their own devises allowed to run wild without a strong lord. I liked Sarah,  she has an interesting past that I would have liked to learn more about.  What happen to her and her “power” is kind of just taken for granted and not gone into much detail.  With all the vamps in this series we get great flashbacks detailing how they become vampires and the source of their issues they are working through, but the humans not so much.  It would be nice to learn more about them too. Rajmund was well done in this story as well.  He was a fun pretty boy that knew how to charm the ladies.  He was everything you would want in a male lead; strong, good looking, charismatic, a reluctant hero.  My only complaint about him is his inability to let things go and holds on to a grudge, but perhaps that is what also makes him a good character.  He isn’t perfect.  He has a flaw. As with other books in this series the supporting characters outside of the lime-light are a hoot. Perhaps after this author works through all the Lords she can go back and give some of them a h.e.a too.  I would like to see someone for Duncan and Emelie.   The villains were well done but we didn’t see much of them in this book, which was fine.  I’m not such a fan of being in the bad guy’s head in these escapist reads.  I want a good story with a little mystery, a puzzle to figure out and a juicy romance.  This story delivered all that and I enjoyed it.  Still not sure how to rate it…  I’m thinking 3 stars.  While I really liked Sarah and Raj, compared to the other book in this series this story left me wanting more, and unlike Cyn and Raphael’s story I think this one has been wrapped up. I hope to see them again, but I think we are moving on to other areas of this world.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 unicorns - I loved it!! ***Received ebook from Belle Books for an honest review The cover has recently had a makeover, and Raj is looking yummy :) I really love this series :)  I read this book straight through because I couldn't put it down.  The story is mostly about Sarah, but Cyn does have some appearances which I love because I loved the characters in the first and second books.  It helps ease you into the new characters and provides connections for you to love the new characters :) Sarah is much stronger than everyone realizes because of her secret past.  I will not give you more than that though because I don’t ever want to ruin someone’s journey into this great story :)  Raj is sexy and powerful, and Sarah is knocking him for loop after loop.  Okay, there is a cliffhanger of sorts at the end of this book, but the story is complete when the cliffhanger is thrown in.  It is the hook to get you to read the next book ;) D.B.’s books are well written and suck you right into the story where you are invested into the characters.  I can’t wait to read more in this series because I see changes coming :) I highly recommend this series to my vamp lovin’ friends :)  Check it out if you haven’t read it yet!!

This was another excellent book! A thrilling plot - young women being kidnapped, apparently by vampires, for what purposes?; a couple that sparks fire every time they are together... I liked very much Rajmund, Sarah too but she was so stubborn and she put herself in danger stupidly sometimes. The world created by D.B. Reynolds is so fascinating, it seems so real that I get myself thinking it's true. And that end?! Oh man, I dying here to know what's happening to Raphael!

This series will only get better and better!!! D.b.Reynolds knows how to hold an audience captive! That’s exactly how I always feel with each new instalment in the Vampires in America, and RAJMUND was no exception. While Vampires Lords are traditionally powerful, dangerous and violent when necessary, true evil will not be tolerated. Rajmund’s story is of a brutally strong male on a journey to claim his right, while being brought to heel by a pocket size woman with a heart the size of New York. I loved this story and know the author will continue to enthral readers with this fantastic series!

I liked the first two much more. I found some of the vampire details in this one didn't match what we'd been told in the previous stories.

In Buffalo the Vampire Lord of Northeast Krystof appears to be losing his sanity. New York City Master Rajmund Gregor knows he is the only one capable of replacing his sire, but detests the need to take control from Krystof; still he will do what is right for his offspring and siblings though he will grieve for what must be done. However, he must first uncover the serial killer of human females who the BPD insists is a vampire. While he works the murder case, Sara Stratton whom he met in the Big Apple is back in her hometown of Buffalo. When they meet again, each recognizes their initial attraction was no fluke. Still, she conceals a paranormal skill that she ran way from a decade ago; an ability he needs to rescue any of the kidnapped women who may still be alive while an evil human tries to blackmail her. The key in the excellent book three of the Vampires of America (see Raphael and Jabril) is that the lead vampire behaves radically different from his star predecessors even with each being arrogant males (an oxymoron). Sara is his equal as she is, when forced, a feisty fighter even with her running from herself. Additionally, the story line spins differently as Rajmund is an intelligent leader who delegates and in fact his lieutenant is the prime field operative. This is a great fresh romantic urban fantasy with a strong late twist, as the vampires and Sara investigate in order to search for a psychopath. Harriet Klausner
