Rhino's 2001 expanded reissue of the Ramones' seminal debut album would have been welcomed if it had simply brought the original album back in print. It may have been available as part of the wonderful All the Stuff & More, Vol. 1 compilation, but there's nothing like hearing the original album in a concentrated blast of gleeful primitivism -- unless it's hearing it in this expanded form with eight bonus tracks. Apart from the final cut, the single version of "Blitzkrieg Bop," these are all demos, some appearing on All the Stuff & More, some appearing on a 1997 7" on Norton Records, some previously unreleased. It would be misleading to call these bonus cuts revelatory, even if they do confirm the group's affection for pop, but they're all welcome additions to the album, especially since they do contain "I Can't Be" and "I Don't Wanna Be Learned/I Don't Wanna Be Tamed," songs that never made it to Ramones albums, plus early versions of "I Don't Care" and "You Should Never Have Opened That Door." On top of the music is the 20-page booklet, containing full artwork and lyrics, tons of rare photographs, and notes from Donna Gaines. It's a terrific package, and it's not just for the dedicated Ramones or punk fan -- it's essential for any rock library.

    My favorite punk album ever.

This is not just a great punk album, this a great album period. This is good music and it is timeless. "Judy is a Punk" is the first song I learned to play on guitar and I learned a lot about music from this album. I love these songs and cannot recommend this enough to anyone who enjoys listening to good music.

The first CD in a series of masterpieces

The Ramones are one of the most important parts of rock's DNA. No decent collection is complete without at least one of their CDs in it. They wanted to bring back the music they loved, and they successfully revived rock n roll at a time when it was needed. You never knew you could do so much with three chords. Every Ramones album is worth buying, and you'll find yourself listening to it again and again and again...

    I can't believe...

that no one has written in a customer review praising ground zero for punk. Essential for parties, road trips or just rocking in your room by yourself.

    Ground breaking

This is the album that arguably was the birth of punk rock. After over 30 years it may have lost some of its impact because the sound has been rehashed by so many bands. But when this came out it was ground breaking. There was nothing like it. One of the most influential albums ever.

    more from this reviewer

    Hey ho, lets go!

A great Punk CD. One of the most influential punk albums ever, their short pieces of dynamite effected artists far beyond the punk movement. The band that proved that Garage is Good.

    I Also Recommend:

    The best album ever

This album is so good i could listen to it over and over again and I have! This album is awesome and its easy to sing to! All the songs are original and great especially I think the best song on the album are Chain Saw, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, Havana Affair, 53rd & 3rd, I Can't Be (Demo) the songs are fun to they're not long and there fast unlike other boring stuff with long guitar solos it also comes with a book that has lyrics and rare pictures so get this album now!
