    Great, affordable dictionary!

This dictionary is simple enough for any beginner but still very useful for anyone. Highly reccomended! You probably won't find a much better dictionary for less than $20.

    Great resource

This dictionary is very comprehensive. The Japanese words are written in both their kanji/kana as well as the romaji for pronunciation. For the amount of entries it contains, it's very compact. The more complex kanji are a bit difficult to see If your eyesight isn't impressive, perhaps a small magnifying glass is a good idea if you wish to see all the details. If you're mostly interested in the pronunciation/romaji, however, this is a great book.

Being used by an exchange student in Japan!!

I bought this dictionary without any serious purposes for it, but it happened to be the best I had when I decided to go to Japan. I figured that I would buy another one once I got to Japan. However, for normal usage, I don't really need another dictionary. It is extremely easy to use. It lists the words by romaji, but also features the standard kanji or kana used. While many serious students have an aversion to romaji dictionaries, for practical usage, looking up in romaji dictionaries is much quicker. It's extremely easy to use and understand. The most annoying thing is that I frequently find words in the Japanese-English section by chance, that aren't listed in the English-Japanese section as well. Definently great for use by high-school exchange students to Japan. I've used mine so much while I have been in Japan that it is falling apart and I am considering buying a new one. Considering the price, definently a great little investment for beginners-intermediate.

    This dictionary sucks

I do not like this dictionary at all. Most the time when I go to find a word I'm looking for, I can't find it. I have to go online to find it instead. This is not for those who are looking for Japanese words before English words if you know what I mean.

    A Decent Reference for Beginners

This dictionary gives a stardard Japanese-English, English-Japanese reference with some good insights on pronunciation and some grammar points.

The only thing it seems to be missing is a kanji reference listed by stroke-count.

    I Also Recommend:

    Best quality for your money

Of the seven Japanese dictionaries that I own, this one is my favorite for its comprehensiveness and detail, yet it's still fairly light for what it holds. It features romanji, kanji, and kana, and common phrases. I'm still just a student and this book can even be used to help remember some kanji. My only con is that it's got so much stuff in it, even though it's light it's still pretty brick-shaped and big, so it's not always fun to tote around. Other than that, I love this dictionary and it's become a must on my reference shelf.

    Good Starter...

I am a former student of Japanese, and this dictionary is a pretty good investment for beginners. Oh course, there are those powerful, full kanji dictionaries, but this dictionary is good for Americans or anyone learning Japanese. But I caution people not to buy dictionaries online and to see them for yourself at the store. Four stars only because there aren't that many, well, actually there are zero, sample sentences, but the characters are easy to read.

    VEry Good

In the beggining of the book it has an introduction of the japanese language, how to pronounce the words, and the japanese alphabet. After thats discussed the book starts the jpanese/english section the the english/japnese section. All though my paper back book broke in half and I have to get a hardcover one instead its still a great book.I give it

    Terrific reference to have!

As an anime fan, I love this book! It might be considered a little on the extravagant side for just fan use, but I've found it helpful in learning a little more about the Japanese language.

    Great for Beginners!

This is a really great book for beginners if they want to start easy. It has the Japanese section for the words you know, and the English section for words you want to know. I use it to create my own sentences and to translate mp3 songs.

    Clear and concise

This is a very good dictionary for beginners of Japanese, as well as for intermediate users. Japanese entries are arranged in romanization, yet each is accompanied by its kana/kanji equivalent. Has a clear and easy-to-read format.
