Meet the Author

John Flanagan

John Flanagan grew up in Sydney, Australia hoping to be a writer. It wasn’t until he wrote a highly uncomplimentary poem about a senior executive at the agency he worked, however, that his talent was revealed. It turned out one of the company directors agreed with John’s assessment of the executive, and happily agreed to train John in copywriting.

After writing advertising copy for the next two decades, John teamed with an old friend to develop a television sitcom, Hey Dad!, which went on to air for eight years.

John began writing Ranger’s Apprentice for his son, Michael, ten years ago, and is still hard at work on the series. He currently lives in the suburb of Manly, Australia, with his wife. In addition to their son, they have two grown daughters and four grandsons.

    more from this reviewer

    A great series

A great series! Flanagan has created a fantastic world for both young and old. Simplistically written, amazingly readable. Would recommend this book for those looking for a quick read or those just looking for the next series to dive into. I find myself realizing a strange fact about myself while reading this. I AM WILL (in the first book)! I hope to grow and develop my skills as I life goes forward.

    I Also Recommend:

    Could not put it down!

A friend of mine recommended that I read the Ranger's Apprentice series. I picked up "The Ruins of Gorlan" for summer reading, and I have been addicted to the series ever since.
John Flanagan creates a very original and believable world with filled with many diverse and well-defined characters. I love watching how the characters continue to grow and surprise you throughout the series.
Even though the recommended age range for this series is 9-12 yr olds, I believe that these books can appeal to anyone who enjoys reading books like "King Arthur" and "Lord of the Rings." Two thumbs up for John Flanagan and his Ranger's Apprentice series!
