I read crime fiction exhaustively & have rarely come across a mystery as clever as this one. Without spoiling the plot, the author's red herring is a true show stopper. Detective Chalice closely resembles a female cop I have known for many years. She is clever, sure-footed, and at times laugh out loud funny. A reviewer recently complained about blank pages. Giving a fine book a poor review for a conversion error is like eating at a five star restaurant and giving it a poor review because the table wobbled. This book is a gem and for my money as good as anything being released by the big publishing houses.

The characters are well developed. They are dramatic and amusing all rolled into one. I loved the ending. I have read other books by this author and am never disappointed. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Again, no cover page. 745 pages? The pages turn 1, 2, and sometimes 3 at a turn. However, this is a full length book. Good suspense, complete with subplots. Good enough, that I purchased the next one in the series. Well worth reading.

I have never read anything by this author. This was a great book, well developed characters and suprise ending. I wouldn't mind a series using these same characters. I will definitely read more by him.

Since when did the review section become a chat room. Go elsewhere so those of us who might actually want to buy the book can read real reviews

This is the first book i have read by this author. I enjoyed his writing style and characters. Good storyline, easy to get back into when frequently interrupted. I really liked the heroine, will read more in this series.

While the premise of the storyline was good, I had a hard time with all the blank pages, grammar and spelling errors. I wish someone hsd checked to see how this book had converted. Overall a disappointing novel.

This book is written in first person from Stephanie's perspective, and all I can say is Kelter shouldn't write a book from the perspective of a woman. Ya, we women like sex, but the patois he gives to Stephanie is pure male. She sounds more like Mike Hammer than a woman cop. An example: Stephanie's lover wakes up amorous and here's what written "He was probably hoping for a fast glass of freshly squeezed me,, and a skillet full off girlfriend over easy...". Was that supposed to be clever, satirical, funny? It was none of that, and the book is full of uneven writing. The story was interesting and definitely worth 99 cents. Would have rated it higher except for the uneven writing. I really don't know who Stephanie really is; poor character development.

Overview
NYPD's street savvy detective, Stephanie Chalice is back and not a minute too soon. Her newest nemesis is a con artist and bloodthirsty killer. Chameleon-like, she is able to change her identity at will-she's a ghost known only as Black. Chalice is called into action when a billionaire's ward, an autistic child, is abducted from under the nose of his well trained bodyguard. Black's reason for choosing this mark is not an obvious one. The kidnap victim is no ordinary child. He has never learned to read or write, and yet is capable of channeling the prophecies of his long dead ancestor, those that have long been memorialized, and those now thought to be ages lost. Chalice is put to the test, forced to decipher clues that
