    Response

If anyone has read the entire bible Jesus mensions His second coming time after time. The book of Revelation says numerous times 'I am coming soon.' You have to ask yourself do you believe the bible or not? Everything that Jesus said would happen is happening. Whether the end is near or not we can't be sure because Jesus will come 'like a thief in the night.' Don't dismiss this as fiction, look into it for yourself. Start a personal relationship with Jesus before it's too late.

    who started this theory, anyway.

I give the author credit for discrediting dispensationalism and its primary feature of a double 2nd coming. However, it was the Juesuits, lead by Francisco Ribera and Robert Belarmine who first concocted the pre-trib rapture theory in the 16th century. Their purpose, indeed the primary purpose of the Jesuit Order, was to distort the truth of the Bible being exposed by the Reformers and serve as a counter-reformation. The truth that the Reformers were discovering as a result of the invention of the printing press and the translation of the Bible into the languages of Northern Europe was that the Roman Church and its Papal system were in fact the great apostacy and man of sin respectively revealed in II Thesalonians 2, Daniel 7 and Revalation 13. This book has distorted this easily documentable historical fact and actually would have us believe it is the Evngelical Protestants who are responsible for the dispensationalist fabrication.

At last something for the rest of us who were bothered by the Left Behind Series

Being Catholic all my life I was never taught how wrong the Rapture theory was. Not only wrong but very dangerous and Dr. Thigpen has really done a great job with this controversial subject. Christ is coming back once more not twice and this book helps those who never understood or never realized this. Being very close to our Blessed Mother, the Marian Apparations is an added extra to this extraordanary book. I definitely recommend this to everyone but especially those Catholics who were like me and just didn't know.

A breath of fresh air in a storm of confusion!

Raptures, pretrip, and end times theories clog the bookstores, but they are just a sales divise engineered to serve up the pet theories of the theologians who didn't have the guts to admit what is true. READ THIS BOOK! IT WILL SET YOU FREE!!! If it doesn't, at least it will clear your mind!

Finally, a biblical response to the 'Left Behind' nonsense

This book is definately worth the read. It's easily understandable yet with enough depth to keep a more scholarly person engaged. I appreciated the background information on the origins of the man-made doctrines of Dispensationalism and the pre-tribulation Rapture. I doubt most Evangelicals/Fundamentalists who hold these views, actually realize that they don't come from the bible. Although I'm hoping this book becomes as widely read as the 'Left Behind' series, chances are it may not be as appealing to those who are attracted to 'end-time' theories that lead them to believe that they will escape any tribulation. Let's face it, nobody wants to be told they may have to suffer for the cause of Christ; but that's exactly what the scriptures teach us. The Truth, however, will set us free, and we need not fear it. Bravo and thanks to Thigpen for an book that's been needed for quite some time.

The Catholic Response to Left Behind Lunacy

Dr. Paul Thigpen has written a helpful book that is clear, concise, and charitable. And that is quite a feat considering the subject matter. As a former evangelical Protestant Dr. Thigpen understands both the inner logic (so to speak) and the strong appeal of the belief in the pretribulational Rapture. The Rapture Trap emphasizes the Big Picture: Why did Jesus come the first time? Why will he come again? What are Christians to be doing in the meantime? What is the purpose of suffering and tribulation? Who has the authority to rightly interpret Scripture? These and other crucial questions are handled adeptly and with a firm foundation in Scripture and Church teaching. The Rapture Trap exposes the overt anti-Catholicism of Tim LaHaye, creator and co-author of the wildly successful Left Behind books. Dr. Thigpen documents LaHaye's ridiculous and laughable attacks on the Catholic Church and shows how this anti-Catholic bent is not simply compatible with 'left behind' beliefs, but is a natural outgrowth of those misguided notions. As an added bonus the book contains a chapter about private revelations and Marian apparitions. Dr. Thigpen provides a commensensical list of questions to consider in evaluating the validity and importance of apparitions. Highly recommended for both Catholics and non-Catholics who are looking for an introduction to this important topic.
