Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
One of the wonderful things about this book is the richness and variation in the content. While the text is accessible to fairly young readers, it also contains a wealth of information about various kinds of rats. Appropriately, most of the chapter titles are questions, and almost all pages contain a sidebar with "Did you know?" and an interesting fact. Clear, close-up photographs and illustrations let the reader take a peak inside a rat, watch a rat leap out of a garbage can, and observe a rat foraging for food. The lively design work gives one the sense of this busy creature's life and suggests that a general fear of rats may not be a bad thing, as they are carriers of a good number of germs and diseases. Published as part of a series, this book lends itself to the student who might have to write about rats. It contains a page of rat facts, as well as a glossary and an index. Part of the "Scary Creatures" series. 2003, Franklin Watts/Scholastic,
