Overview

Raven has an unusual gift, or is it a curse: a nose that can smell almost anything. During her adventures in medieval, magical Ausland, she must defeat a dragon, an army of giant-size warriors, and three evil wizards. But even the defeat of the evil wizards will not be enough. When their magic is destroyed, Raven and her new friend must avoid starvation, face lightning bolts and make a difficult moral choice. Interleaved with this fantasy adventure is another story: how does a scrappy fighter come to terms with her past mistakes, and how does she find friends to help her make amends for them? Although there's no graphic violence or graphic sex, Raven's Gift probably deserves an R rating for being very earthy.

Meet the Author

Tobias D. Robison was born to be taxed without representation in Washington D.C, and he graduated with distinction from Columbia College without learning to write. After a lifetime of crafting non-fiction, he moved effortlessly into the fictional universe in 2006. Robison (not Robinson!) has the distinction of having designed one of the earliest RISC architectures that was used commercially, during a career of software development that has seen the cost of a memory bit drop from $0.10 to $0.0000000000125. Robison's writing is heavily influenced by classical music, sculpture, painting and other unlikely sources. He writes as if always aware that today's writerly maxims were not yesterday's, and will not be tomorrow's.

    more from this reviewer

    Pass

It was as if the author had to to overuse refrences to bodily fluids and functions in order to win attention as a genuine writer. This story left an impression of a teen writing more for shock value than a writer sharing a story.

    Very good

My last review i had 900 pages to go.ive finished.I liked the the book.It was kinda odd and slow going for awhile. Over all this is a very good book. Not like Paolini or Hicks but maybe the next tale of Raven will be the one to rock !!!!! I will be waiting .

    Enjoyable fantasy

I found myself entrapt in Raven's world.
Nook lists this as 1000 pages, but it is actually about 600. That is still several days read even for me!
I didn't notice any grammatical or punctuation errors that I've found in many nook-books.
Vivid in his descriptions it flowed well and gore and sexual references felt appropriate.
This isn't a perfect book, but I look forward to the remaining two installments.
