Raven Grace was a college senior with ambitions of a career in law enforcement when she met the demon Aega, whose bite turned her from mortal to Shapeshifter. Now a member of the Recovery Organization, Raven keeps the peace between humans and errant Hellhounds, trolls, wizards and the like while trying to track down Aega and bring him to justice. After a particularly dicey encounter one night with a Hellhound, she goes to the aid of a girl who’s been attacked and near death—and is amazed to find Aega’s bite mark on the girl’s arm. Determined to get to the bottom of this, she revisits the victim’s apartment and there discovers her closet is a portal to a parallel universe, where people she knows lead vastly different lives. She also gets a glimpse of the Recovery Captain there—a six foot, redheaded Scotsman named Finn McPhee, whose sexy accent and even sexier bod sets her senses aflame. Seeking answers, Finn takes Raven to the magickal underworld, where an ancient fae informs them the demon’s quest is rooted in Scottish mythology and magick. As they delve deeper into legend, the truth comes to light—Aega is only a pawn, subservient to another, darker demon…a being who knows the truth about Raven’s heritage, and who orchestrated her return to this parallel universe for the ultimate showdown. Now, Finn and Raven find their passion for one another must take a backseat to Raven’s battle with a dark force who won’t be satisfied until he’s claimed her soul for his very own…

Raven was a normal girl partying at the club when one encounter with a handsome man, who turns out to be a demon, leaves her violated and puts an end to her human life. After a demon bite transforms her into a shapeshifter, she decides to join the law enforcement Recovery Unit whose main job is to keep the Supes in check. But behind every investigation is the hope of tracking the demon who turned her. The problem is that she never thought the demon may just in fact be tracking her...With every lead turning cold, she travels to a parallel dimension and seeks the help of hot, Scottish detective Finn who has been working the same case in his world. Together with the help of their friends they set out on a demon hunting mission, but with the sexual tension going through the roof, Finn and Raven must soon fight another battle: what will happen once and if they capture the demon?: will she return home or will she give it all up for the man she loves? With the demon back on a murder spree, her love life up in the air, and everything she loves hanging in the balance - it's up to Raven to bring down the demon and set it all right before she loses everything, including her soul.

    Fabulous Urban Fantasy Read

Note* Actual rating $.25 STAR & I reviewed this book for Night Owl Reviews. PLOT: Based on a prophecy, Raven's Kiss is an excellent adult urban fantasy that kept me guessing chapter after chapter. The author did a good job of weaving mystery and a little romance together with a highly adventurous story thread. The action and adventure lead the heroine, Raven, through some strange situations that had me very entertained and wanting more with each flip of the page. The story flowed well for the most part but I did feel the dialogue weighed down the pace at times. The one aspect of the story that I hard time believing was some of the things Raven would say to the hero, Finn. In fact, there were a couple of times I had to step away from the story and come back to it later because of the way Raven handled herself. However, this did not affect the strong beginning, middle and end that, from the start, pulled me into the thick of Raven's world where she is a Recovery Agent similar to our FBI Agent. As in all urban fantasy the world building is the bases of the story and I have to say the author did a great job of creating a world that was unique in every sense. And while the romance was not at the forefront of the story I did find the connection between Raven and her male interest, Finn a nice touch and a bit sensual to follow by the end. It added a great flavor to the story and ultimately had me cheering for Raven when at times I wanted to reach out and teach her some manners. I am happy to say though that she did grow into a character that I liked and hope to see in further books to come. Contrary to many urban fantasy books, and to my satisfaction, the author wrapped up the story quite nicely without leaving us with a cliffhanger that would have left me months wondering what happened to Raven and Finn. I am not one for endings that leave me guessing at all and for that alone I know I will be picking up Toni LoTempio's next book! WRITING: Ms. LoTempio can write with a craftiness that proves she can tell a tale! Her writing style affords such attention to detail that you know exactly what is going on around the main character even though the story is told in first person. This is no easy task I assure you. And even though this is a self published book, the editing was, for the most part, spot on with very limited mistakes throughout the entire book. CHARACTERS: Raven Grace is one character I almost ended up disliking completely. After being attacked by a demon and left as a shapeshifter she adopts an attitude that is hard to get along with for the first half of the book. On one hand you understand her single minded determination to rid the world of any evil doers, but it is hard to swallow at times and as I said above, had me stepping away from the book a few times. If not for the secondary characters and the tight plot, Raven might have stopped me from continuing. But, I also have to say that I wanted to see if she would grow beyond her hatred and I was not disappointed in the least. While she is still snarky 'till the very end, a veil is lifted at the latter end of the book and I was able to get a good look at the girl that was left to fend for herself after her attack, the girl that was wounded and had to come to terms with being a shapeshifter or coli as she is referred to in the story.

    Pretty awesome idea...parallel universe!

    Review by Stephanie O:
When I read the blurb for this book, I said to myself it sounded like a book right up my alley. After dealing with a technical issue I was finally ready to get to reading. The first part of the book seemed to move rather slowly, but the second half was packing. The story line isn't one I am familiar with having read before, so the idea was pretty awesome. I have read books before that offer portal travel for going back in time or forward in time. Never have I read one that travels you to a parallel universe. (If I have, it didn't stick with me.) Raven is about to have many things from her life fall into place. A forced leave of personal time off gives her just what she needs to settle a score. Little does she know the tarot reading she got from Crystal is dead on and her Knight is coming whether she likes it or not. Raven isn't one to mix business with pleasure, but has a hard time ignoring the spark when she finally meets her "Knight" (aka Finn) in person. It's a battle between good and evil, with many lives at stake, it's a battle that cannot be lost. When the dust settles in the end, who will be left standing - will it have been enough? Is there a happily ever after?

    Timeband romancing

The parallel alternate universe in this story gives us a double dose of colorful characters that makes this an interesting read all the way to the demon showdown at the end.

The romancing is fun with a bit of banter and light on the schmexy stuff, after all, demon hunting is the priority ;-D

And I like how the title of the book comes into play.

    Good paranormal adventure!

Raven's Kiss is the first book in a new series called Raven Grace. This is a good paranormal book that has a variety of paranormal creatures. Raven is a 20-something year old college girl who has been bitten by a demon, which has turned her into a Shapeshifter. She can shift into just about anything - lots of things you've probably never even heard of!

Despite her strong powers, Raven mourns being a mortal. She is very bitter and angry about what has happened to her. Her sole purpose now, is to go after the demon who turned her. She is a Recovery Organization agent - which is like law enforcement for the paranormal world. Raven works non-stop to help keep her mind off her troubles, and to work off her pent-up anger.

Raven has a bit of an attitude problem, especially at the beginning of the book. Even her coworkers file complaints about her. It's only normal that she would be upset with her situation, but she tends to take her anger out on other people. She will, however, grow on you throughout the book. After being forced to take a vacation, Raven gets caught up in quite the adventure! She meets a handsome man named Finn who helps her track down the demon. There is a bit of a romance involved, but the book is more adventurous than romantic.

I don't want to spoil things too much, but there is a big characteristic of this book that makes it unlike other paranomal books I have read. I didn't feel that I really connected with the main character though. Also, I almost thought there was too much dialogue at times - though I'm not sure I've ever said that about a book before. I just think that a lot of the dialogue was filler material and too descriptive at times. The flow of the book was a bit odd to me, but I can't really put my finger on why. Of course, this is just my opinion and these things might be perfect in your opinion. Overall, this was a pretty good adult paranormal book that includes a lot of mystery, fantasy, and adventure!

    A Solid Read

Imagine being able to travel to another realm where another you exists? I don't know about you but I wouldn't mind seeing what my other self is doing. Hopefully, I'm not a serial killer or something. That would be totally messed up. Anyhoo. Raven Grace is a Recovery Agent, tasked with getting the bad guys in whatever way possible. She is also looking for the demon that changed her into a shape-shifter. Raven's volatile nature and bullheadedness comes to a boil and she is ordered to either take a vacation or start seeing the company shrink. Fuming, she decides to go on vacation with no intention of relaxing whatsoever. After making short work of a Hellhound in a dark alley, Raven finds herself in the midst of a crime scene that has all the hallmarks of what had happened to her. Raven discovers a portal to another world in the young victim's closet (wouldn't this freak you out) With the help of Professor Stokes, Crystal the psychic and her friend Naomi, Raven travels to the other side where she meets Finn McPhee, another Recovery Agent. At first he has his doubts about who she is and why she's there but eventually he starts to believe her. Slowly they begin to fit the pieces to the puzzle of why Raven and other women with similar features were singled out. Raven Grace is one angry young woman and I do mean angry. I totally get the whole the-demon-bit-me-and-changed-my-life and I initially felt sorry for her but after a while, though, her attitude grates on your nerves and you want to just slap her. Raven's friends are an eclectic mixture of common sense and humor. She's very lucky to have them and they help give a different feel to the story. Aside from that, its very thorough yet fast paced. I wouldn't call this a paranormal romance as there was little to none altogether. This reads more like a paranormal thriller or something along those lines. There are a lot of twists and turns that will keep you guessing. Raven's Kiss is a solid read all the way through. I think this is the first book in the series and I don't have any other information regarding a second title. 3.5 stars
