    Raven's Shadow

I love Patricia Briggs. Her Mercy Thompson series is one of my favorite series. But, Raven's Shadow was just ok. The plot is really good, the story is great. I think the part that I didn't care for was the writing style.

This book covers a lot of time (more than 20 years). Sometimes because of this huge time span there seems to be some jumps in time. One page talks about getting married and then the next page is 20 years later. It happens quite a bit. Situations like starting a pot to boil and then it is two days later. The transitions between time are sometimes very rough and make it a little difficult to follow. But if you can get past this, the book is excellent.

The plot is exciting, you want to find out more about the characters. Her portrayal of the magic in her characters is well done. It is worth reading, it is just not as good as some of her other writings.

    Great fantasy

After nine years of fighting the Shadowed, a powerful wizard and his armies, Tier is coming home. When he stays at an inn he saves the life of a Traveler, a powerful mage in a land that hates people who use magic. When they arrive at his village, he marries the mage Seraph and they start out their married life farming a piece of land nobody else would touch. They have three children all of whom have different Talents and they are relatively happy until Tier doesn¿t return home after a season of trapping............................. The leaders of the village tell her Tier is dead but when she and her children investigate the remains, they are magically able to ascertain that the burned body is not Seraph¿s husband. After fighting a priest and her brother in law who is Shadowed, she learns that her husband was taken to the Emperor¿s palace in Taela by the Secret Path, a shadow organization of second and third sons who strip the powers of the Talented and use it for their own purposes. Seraph, with the help of other Travelers intends to free her husband but when she arrives at the palace, Tier informs her they must break the power of the Secret Path in order to save the Empire from their behind the scenes rule. ............................ Patricia Briggs is a talented storyteller who enchants her audience with a spellbinding tale. The people who are shadowed are open to the Stalker, an evil entity created by the wizards of Colossae. The few wizards who survived the destruction of the city, a necessary actin needed to bind the Stalker so he won¿t destroy the human race are sent out into the world as Travelers to fight the evil entities that the Stalker leaks into the world. Saraph, who for two decades, led a normal life, realizes she must fight the Shadowed that is loose in the world in order to avoid another war. This courageous character is only one of the reason¿s Raven¿s shadow is going on this reviewer¿s keeper shelf........................... Harriet Klausner

    Favorite Author... gotta read!

I've been a fan of hers since When Demons Walk. I'm very happy to see reprints of all her books (boohoo to Masques though....) She always has nice action rounded out with drama and mystery and that touch of romance! This is the first book of two about a family that gets thrown into magic and royalty via what they are- the Orders. Check out the pair Dragon Blood and Dragon Bones, Hob's Bargain, Steal the Dragon and When Demons Walk (based in the same universe) and yes..... Mercy Thompson, coyote mechanic extraordinaire with the hottest wolves!!!! The Alpha and Omega series has started out strong too.

    Excellent Read!

This book is fast-paced and very well written. Patricia Briggs does not fill her books with any excess details. The characters are well drawn out. I highly recommend this book and any of her previous ones for anyone, especially if you like fantasy. One of the best authors currently writing.

    Highly recommended!

I bought this because I've read (and loved) everything else Patricia Briggs has written. This book did not disappoint. I was delighted with the world she created, the unique cast of characters, and a nicely developed plot. I immediately purchased the next book, and I can't wait to read it.

Warrior Cats: A New Beginning- Chapter 1

As Ravenkit and Stormkit followed Dovewing and Lionblaze they came across a hunting party. "Hello Sandstorm." Lionblaze said to the pale ginger she in the front of the hunting party then continued past. Stormkit stayed near Ravenkit scared but determined. "That was the cat that help Firestar." Stormkit whispered in Ravenkits ear. Ravenkit nodded and they fell silent when they got close to camp. Lionblaze led them in and helped them up a pile of rocks while Doveeing entered a bramble bush. "Bramblestar?" Lionblaze asked and a toms voice answered "Come in Lionblaze." He meowed. "Who are these cats." He asked standing up. "This is Ravenkit and that is Stormkit." He meowed indicating to each cat in turn. "We have no home and heard about you from the cats in the mountians. May we join?" Ravenkit asked. "Let me think about it but yoj may stay the night." Bramblestar meowed and Ravenkit and Stormkit followed Lionblaze out and down the rocks towards the bramble bush Dovewing had entered earlier. "Go in Dovewing will watch you." He meowed and the teo kits walked into the nursery.
