Raving Violet takes us along on a captivating journey of tarot cards, gurus, séances, and sex objects as Gilbert recounts reconnecting with her mom, learning to trusting her gut, and finding the beauty that sometimes can’t be seen but which is hidden right in plain sight the whole time. You just have to know what to look for.She writes in a way that you almost feel you are there, walking beside her in her journey. She is a profound, writer, with heart and soul.

Raving Violet is the true story of the life of the author, Valerie Gilbert, who starts off the book by telling us not to have any fun. Which was a difficult proposition, since I had fun just reading the part where she’s telling me not to. I have never been into mediums, spiritualists, gurus, séances, or tarot cards, but after reading this book, I think I might consider them.

Well, I wrote the damn thing so I'm going WHOLE HOG and givin' RAVING VIOLET FIVE STARS!  I hope you buy it. I trust you'll love it!  It's a horse of a different color -Spirituality without Sanctimony.  Philosophy with Sass.  The Divine with Decadence, Conviviality and absolutely no Condescension. Liberation, democracy and outrageousness all smushed into one tiny person (me) and my cockamamie world view.  Try it, you'll like it!   Valerie

    Raving Violet by Valerie Gilbert

Short stories about a native New Yorker, masterfully written with humor and wit. Some of the topics
include, Gurus, her deceased parents, bad dates, seances, mediums and life in New York. Written
with a humorous tone, I really enjoyed this writing style.  The stories were, fun , interesting, exciting,
fresh and funny. My three favorites were; The Cheese Thief, Love Little the Sun & Remember Mama.
I feel non-fiction/memoir and short story readers will enjoy Raving Violet. I highly recommend to
    readers of all genres.

    Valerie Gilbert
    Raving Violet

This book consists of a compilation of shorts that the author has posted on her blog in the past. It’s an enjoyable read that’s comical at times and covers a vast array of subjects around living in New York. Easy to pick up and put down, I read this over a few days and some really got me thinking about my own thoughts and beliefs.

I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
