Lieutenant Agrus Kos enjoys his work. A top-notch officer of the city guard, he's been on the force over fifty years. He works alone. And the League of Wojek never had problems with him or his work. Until now.
They gave him a partner to train, who promptly got himself killed. And the more he looks into the death, the less he likes it.
Something dark is moving within the guilds of Ravnica.

I originally received this book as part of a "fat pack" (a Magic the Gathering product that came with a bunch of booster packs, a guide to what you could find in the set, boxes to store your cards in, and back in the day, a book). I wasn't sure what to expect from a novel based on a card game. Being curious and having an unread book right in front of me, I couldn't help but dive in, and I was very pleasantly surprised. The writing was well above par for a licensed fantasy novel, the characters had personality to them that let you get attached, and the plot is woven skillfully enough that you find yourself having trouble putting the book down. As this is under $6 right now, I'd gladly recommend it even to someone unfamiliar with the Magic trading card game. You'll probably find yourself coming back for the sequels.

this book rocked!! it was the best in the whole ravnica series. the way that they incorporated many of the card-characters into the book was awesome!! I love playing the card game but I loved reading the book even more.

I am a regular magic player and I decided I wanted to try this series out since the new set is all about returning to Ravnica. The book was very good and I really enjoyed the character of Jarad and Feather. I had a hard time completely getting into it at the beginning of the book, but after the "explosive" end to Act I, I was hooked. Was able to finish the back two-thirds of the book within a day or two. Looking forward to checking out the other two in this series.

I went in not knowing what to expect but came out impressed. There were a few slow dragging points, but the numerous twists and action scenes more than made up for any short comings

This book was a thriller. Suspense and action all the way. It sometimes felt like it was a well scripted movie. Possibly with Denzel Washington as Agrus Kos and etc.. it was really good. Player or Non player of the Magic: The Gathering Game its a really good read.
