Overview

It’s time to rescue snacks from the realm of empty-calorie packaged junk food and transform everyday pick-me-ups into healthful, satisfying mini meals. Why waste calories on cookies or chips that have no nutritional value and provide only short-term satisfaction when raw foods are delicious, simple to prepare, and bursting with natural energy boosters that everybody needs to stay fit and healthy?

Thanks to Raw Energy, it has never been easier to add a full spectrum of raw ingredients to a healthful lifestyle. Author Stephanie Tourles’s 125 recipes for trail mixes, parfaits, energy bars, juice blends, smoothies, soups, vegetable chips, zippy dips, candies, and cookies combine raw ingredients in delicious snacks that are chock-full of nutrients and long-term energy boosters.

Made from real, whole foods that are uncooked, unadulterated, and unprocessed, these snacks are 150- to 250-calorie packages of health and vitality, dense with naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, fiber, and enzymes. The snacks in Raw Energy do not rely on refined white flour or sugar, they are not cooked in any way, and, with the exception of honey, they do not use animal products.

They do include raw nuts and seeds, nut butters, dried and fresh fruits, oats, carob, cocoa, freshly extracted juices, and vegetables. They taste great and are easy to digest. Tourles provides a complete overview of the benefits of raw foods, along with an introduction to "uncooking" techniques and an ingredient-by-ingredient food guide. For anyone looking for more nutritional punch from low-calorie snacks, Raw Energy provides 125 tasty starting points.

Library Journal
This delightful addition is easily accessible even to readers looking to make small changes in their diets. Licensed holistic esthetician Tourles (Organic Body Care Recipes) shares a list of ingredients with pictures of each item. A list of kitchen equipment is also provided to accompany these recipes for shakes, bars, and soups, some of which require the use of a juicer or dehydrator. For libraries that don't have any books on the topic, this is an excellent introduction. Also consider Matt Amsden's RAWvolution, which includes raw foods for every meal, even desserts.

Raw Energy is great! Buy it!

Raw Energy is a great book with really tasty, healthy recipes. I made the banana-honey granola bars and they turned out great--very tasty and what makes it better is that they are made with all natural ingredients! My boyfriend gave one to a friend and he loved it! He asked to get the recipe from me. I really love this book. If you're questioning whether you should buy it or not--don't. Just buy it. You won't regret it. I'm very happy with my purchase. =)

    Must buy!

I just bought this book over the weekend. I'm trying to work on my eating habits and am a classic case of a person who gets her snacks out of a vending machine. The author does a great job of explaining raw food, what kinds of foods to buy, cooking terms, and equipment. The recipes look super easy and there are many of them that I can't wait to try! Everyone should own this book!

    Nice guide

Being raw seems pretty simple...is it raw or is it cooked? But sometimes I don't want it to be quite that simple. This snack book filled with raw snack recipes is pretty good for people trying to increase the amount of raw foods in their diet. One of the most challenging things about being raw (for me anyway) can be grabbing an interesting and satisfying snack. This book has several great ideas that are pretty easy (there are many that do require the use of a dehydrator which I have). The cheater chocolate almond milk is a favorite for all my kids as well as some of the chewy fruit bars. I do have other raw cookbooks, so some of the information was a bit repetitive, but I'm still really glad that this is in my "raw library."

    Lousy Sample

Why do cookbook samples so rarely include a recipe??!! Even just one would give the buyer a truer idea of the nature of the book. So no thanks.
