R.A.W. Trauma Recovery: From Triggered to Transformed: A Trauma Recovery Guide
Trauma disrupts more than just the nervous system—it alters the way we trust, relate, and engage in relationships. For many, what begins as a survival response to pain becomes a barrier to connection, intimacy, and emotional safety. R.A.W. Trauma Recovery – From Triggered to Transformed was written with one core truth in mind: Relationships Are Work, and for those living with trauma, that work is both personal and relational. This book is designed to guide individuals through the nuanced layers of healing, from managing emotional triggers to rebuilding the ability to connect with self and others in healthier, more empowered ways.
Drawing on trauma-informed principles and relational psychology, this guide offers a structured yet compassionate path from reactivity to resilience. Each chapter combines practical tools with reflective prompts that encourage awareness, regulation, and growth. You will learn to recognize the signs of emotional overwhelm, understand how trauma shapes communication and attachment, and develop skills for navigating difficult relational patterns. Whether you are healing from childhood wounds, betrayal, violence, or systemic trauma, this guide aims to meet you with both science and soul—without judgment and without rushing your process.
Healing is not a destination—it is a series of choices, boundaries, and brave moments of self-reflection. Transformation does not mean becoming unrecognizable; it means reclaiming your story, reestablishing your safety, and learning to show up more fully in the relationships that matter. This book is a continuation of the R.A.W. series because recovery does not happen in isolation—it happens in the hard but beautiful work of reconnecting, reprocessing, and rebuilding. From triggered to transformed is more than a title—it is a journey. Let us take that step together.

About the Author

Dr. Richard C. Hanzy, PsyD, PhD, LMFT, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in multiple states. With more than fifteen years of clinical experience, he specializes in trauma-informed care, couples and family systems, and problem-solving therapy. A former 9/11 Air Force veteran, Dr. Hanzy combines the discipline and resilience of his life experiences with a compassionate, client-centered approach to healing.
Rooted in a faith-based framework, Dr. Hanzy integrates Control Mastery Theory and Contextual Family Therapy with spiritual principles, helping individuals and couples find meaning and strength even in their darkest moments. He is known for his warm rapport, gentle humor, and commitment to creating safe spaces where clients can name their pain, reclaim their voice, and discover new possibilities for growth. His work has been featured in regional behavioral health forums, and he regularly consults with mental health and community organizations on trauma recovery and family wellness initiatives.
Born and raised in Gibson, Louisiana, and shaped by his teenage years in Oakland, California, Dr. Hanzy brings a rich tapestry of cultural insight to his practice. He holds a PhD in Human Services, a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and a Master’s in Theological Studies. Outside the therapy room, he is a devoted father who loves fishing, coaching, teaching, and mentoring young professionals. When he is not writing or seeing clients, you will find him casting a line at dawn or sharing stories of hope and resilience over a home-cooked meal with friends.
