Here's the perfect introduction to the Bible for preschoolers.

Beautifully illustrated by Julie Downing, this collection includes over a dozen favorite stories from both the Old and New Testaments.
Children's Literature
Thirteen popular Old and New Testament stories are retold for young children in this appealing picture book and CD kit. Each story is beautifully illustrated with detailed pictures. The simple, clear text is just right for young readers. Text placement is designed to complement the topic and characters found in each story. For example, in the first story, "God Makes the World," there are colorful pictures of a buffalo, an elephant, a tiger, a frog, a turtle, and other animals, to show that the sixth day of creation was the busiest of all. The text starts in the left hand corner of the page and falls like a stream, separating some of the animals, until it reaches the bottom of the right page, where a creeping insect is crawling through the grass. Other stories from the Old Testament include "Noah's Ark," "Joseph and His Rainbow Coat," and "Daniel in the Lions' Den." New Testament selections include "The First Christmas," "The Wise Men," "Five Thousand Hungry People," and "The First Easter." A "Who's Who in the Bible Stories," with pictures and text, is found at the back of the book. The kit is an excellent choice for both home libraries and religious education classrooms. Stories on the CD are read by Diane Louise Jordan. 2005 (orig.1997), Dorling Kindersley, Ages 3 to 8.

Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati
Many of the 13 Bible stories in this book are appropriate for young children. However, some of the text may trouble young children and may necessitate some editing for the reader, for example, in recounting the story of Noah the text states, "Everyone will be drowned except you and your family." In the Adam and Eve story when God banishes them from the garden he stations "an angel with a fiery sword at the gate." The illustrations are integral to the book and will capture childrens' imaginations.
School Library Journal
K-Gr 2--Profusely illustrated with lively, slightly childlike watercolors of various sizes that divide the blocks of easy-to-read text, these stories are told in shortened, simplified forms adequate for an introductory collection. Old Testament selections include the Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, baby Moses, Daniel, and Jonah. The New Testament retellings include the Nativity, the Flight into Egypt, the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. Another pleasant entry in a long list of basic Bible storybooks.--Patricia Pearl Dole, formerly at First Presbyterian School, Martinsville, VA
