Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
Each of these 24page books features Curious George learning specific concepts. When he tries to convert a model sailboat into a ferry by adding toy cars, he discovers principles of floating and sinking. He is disappointed in the dog show because the dogs just stand around. He invites them all to come home with him where he divides them into categories in different rooms. In this way he ascertains that the three groups of three dogs each is equal to nine dogs. He tries to manage a kite that is too large for him and ascends into the air as he learns about wind and flight. George wants to break the pinata at a birthday party, but finds out he must wear a blindfold. He wanders through town and into a fire station as he notices ways in which his senses, other than sight, help him figure out where he is. He mistakenly thinks he has won at miniature golf when he has the highest score. As he plays his second game, he discovers simple design principles. George needs to be five candy sticks tall to ride the roller coaster; he is only four sticks tall. He wanders around the park eating his candy stick and remeasuring. Of course, the candy gets shorter and he thinks he has grown tall enough. Fortunately, the roller coaster operator brings out a different chart to measure the height of monkeys and he gets his ride. The books are based on the Curious George character created by H.A. and Margret Rey and the PBS Kids television series. The illustrations are more cartoonlike than those of the original books and the tone is more didactic. All of the books contain two pages of related learning activities in back. Many encourage the child to write answers directly in the book. The box includes a chart for listing books read, a blank Certificate of Achievement with spaces for placing stickers as books are completed, and a page of stickers containing more than are needed on the certificate. The collection is better suited for use by one child in the home than for general reading in school or public libraries. "Curious George: Green Light Reader Getting Ready to Read Level 1" includes the following: Curious George: The Boat Show adapted by Kate O'Sullivan, ISBN: 9780547601107; Curious George: The Dog Show, adapted by Monica Perez, ISBN: 978547691152; Curious George: The Kite, adapted by Monica Perez, ISBN: 978547691189; Curious George: Pinata Party, adapted by Marcy Goldberg Sacks and Priya Giri Desai, ISBN: 9780547691039; Curious George Plays Mimi Golf, adapted by Marcy Goldberg Sacks, ISBN: 9780547691213; Curious George: Roller Coaster, adapted by Monica Perez, ISBN: 9780547691206. Meet the Author

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in numerous languages. And many, many Curious George books have followed.

Reading Fun with Curious George Boxed Set (CGTV reader boxed Set) 5 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 2 reviews.

We have the storybook with all the stories rather than the boxed set. Our daughter just turned five and has had this book a year or two now. Our son who isn't even 2 yet enjoys the Curious George stories already. Educational, but the series always has us laughing and giggling. Great for when we go out and could use reading material as it  has several stories in one book.
